How can I use 'long' tail keyword domains to improve sales/SEO on my exsiting company domain?

I have a company domain that I use to sell one product in particular (pain relief cream). Will I achieve something if I register for example a domain containing 'pain-relief-cream' and redirect it to my company domain. Is this approach any good or should I make an indipendend page (like a squeeze page) to sell the product on it separately from my company domain. Or even an info page optimizied with keywords that link to my company page?

What would be the best approach?

Redirecting a new domain to an existing site is a waste of time unless you've built backlinks to the new domain. So, option 1 is impractical. I recommend you create a page on the same company domain and promote the pain relief cream since it will benefit from the existing authority/age of the company domain and rank faster.

    I agree.

You could usually 301 that new domain to your old site and build SAPE/SPAM links to it and use it as a buffer, but since it's a real company site in question - no-go.

I get it now thanks. One more question...when I create backlinks do you suggest to target the product page (let's /say pain-relief-cream/ or root page of the company?

Longtails are best gien a separate page on an existing website.

Product page. That will produce better results than building links to the root domain.
