Will I get in trouble for copyright if I add music to my instagram videos? I know a lot of people do. But does this risk my account getting banned? It wouldn't be like every single video. It'd probably be like 3 videos a month on one channel that have a 15 second snippet of music accompanying the video.

I haven't done this nor anything similar, but I can tell you what I know.

YouTube, the most popular video website on the Internet does not allow this and they have very smart algorithms to detect it.

Twitch, a streaming platform, as well doesn't allow this and they have a smart algorithms to detect copyrighted music on channels, and mutes them.

So, my guess is that it's very easy to detect whether your video contains copyrighted music or not, the risk is now yours to take.

    I sincerely doubt it.

Unlike Twitch and YouTube, video isn't Instagram's primary content. Why would they (or their owner, Facebook) put in resources for detecting copyright infringement on videos that most people record on their phones, if at all?

Simply, because it's cheap and protects them from lawsuits.

Don't worry about copyright on Instagram. They doesn't give a damn, have you ever heard of someone who have been striked for copyright on Instagram? Exactly, you haven't! Feel free to upload!

Just because Instagram themselves do not care, doesn't mean they won't take action if the copyright owners care.

True, although I would say that the risk is very minimal, so I would still not worry. Everyone is uploading copyrighted photos on Instagram, nonetheless the big accounts.

It actually depends on what kind of video it is and how long do you plan to play the music track which you're using.
The source from where you got the track does matter as well.

So, lets say, if you have a small video some people dancing while some X artist's music is playing, they won't sue you for copyright because you're just sharing the moments you enjoyed with your friends on that particular track and aren't exactly trying to benefit from the music.

Why don't you try it on a new account? You just never know..

Just like how some people are able to follow 1000s of users per day without getting the hammer. Oddly, it happens.

The worst that could happen is that they delete the video instantly after you have posted it. They have copyright infringement detectors so their robot deletes the video instantly if they notice a copyrighted video. I have found a way to come around this though. PM if you wanna know

There are so many niches out there. Why you want to do this? Copy right of music is very sensitive.
IG might be ok for now. But what if IG change the game rules and ban your account with millions followers? I bet you will cry.
Always start things confirmed to be safe. or comparably safe.

This is the easiest stuff to test.
Take a testing Instagram account, put a music on video and wait.
You get strike? -> NO, you cannot user copyrighted music.
You don't get strike - > YES, go ahead and use

    simple as that

doing a video log in a street or at an event you will unwantedly record music, if they will ask about copy right no one will ever use social for vlog
