I am running a small website online. I sell t-shirts and other little various things. I don't have paypal.

My question is about bank account information online. The script i have allows members to pay buy Bank Transfer.

Once they press on "checkout" it will take them to the Bank Transfer Information.

    The information it shows is:

    (Example)
    Bank Account Name: Ryan Smith
    Bank Account Number(IBAN): 123456
    Swift Code: 1234
    Bank Name: Bank of America

So the question is. Is it safe to put this type of information online? Most of the users on my website are strangers.

What can a stranger do with this information. Are they able to withdraw money from my bank account just by having these 4 details?

I have never tried to take out money from my bank without having the actuall card. So i am curious about this.

    Am i being parnoid?

What advice do you guys have?

If you have to make a thread asking this question, best bet would be to just make a paypal account and use their API to handle transactions dude.
Your info won't be revealed that way. But aint no way in hell I'd have any of my own bank info exposed online. Especially to strangers, regardless if they're just shopping.

This!, but if you must, at least open another account just for this purpose and transfer to your main account daily, weekly or whatever...

Why don't you just make a paypal account!
Also, if you cannot make the same, ask the above question from your bank !

In my country almost every ecommerce site has their business bank account details publicly available. I don't see any problem.

i think no problem.. i reveal my bank account on my website..
as i know.. you can't send your money out from your bank with only use your info...
but the problem if someone hate you.. he can use your bank info to scamming people with your bank info..

    For OP:
It's safe, because I see those info all the time on TV from associations asking for donations. Nobody can take your money that way . And in what country are you anyway ?
    For others:
if we're selling something online(mostly digital goods), is there any other payment methods we can use besides paypal , that doesn't require a monthly fee ? (i'm not talking about the x% cut from the sale). Thank you

They can't withdraw money from your bank account unless:

    1) They impose like you, meaning they need to have your ID to do that.
    2) Hack the bank servers, which in case it happens, you won't be the only one affected lol...

So don't worry, it's pretty safe. Universities, Charity/Donation Organizations and other companies all have their bank details online.

Even if they can't, any personal info exposed online is bad imho.
They can you use that info the way you never know.

The bank account i want to use is located in Canada.

As someone else stated. I would open a completely different bank account just for the purpose of my little business.

Even if they managed to take money out. I wouldn't have enough money for them. Can they take out and leave me in the negetive?

I could open up a business account and not use my own name? It seems strange that someone could take out money just by having that... bur criminals are smart

If you want to accept payments why not use Paypal. You should consider the ability of hackers and on-line thieving before allowing your banking information to be made public.

I have decided not to use my bank info online.

I talked to my bank and they suggested email transfer. The buyers could send me money by an email transfer
