    Hello all,

I have a US site that ranks #2 in Google's local packs for almost all of its target keywords. It has links from 2-3 .gov directories (where you can only get listed after proper verification). It's a company website that offers a specific type of service. It also has close to 50 local citations, and around 15 Google+ local reviews (avg. rating is close to 4.8/5). Acquiring (through incentives mainly) natural, contextual links from high authority sites in its niche has helped a lot with organic ranking, but little in local ranking. Any idea what I should do to overtake the currently #1 site?

All of your suggestions are welcome.

Have you checked the sites backlinks to see any good links?? Once you find them, use them yourself.

The thing is, I've replicated some, acquired some even better links to outrank the primary competitor on some keywords, but the bigger question is, will backlinks help directly in local search?

I usually do 40-50 citations a month to my own stuff till they're all done. For a typical US business it's 300-400 citations max. If the client has just 50, you're still missing a good core # of citations PR3 and above.

    Best regards,
    Andrew

One site already has 200+ citations, but I didn't see any special result due to that. BTW, for your service, do you actually check the sites for existing citation of the company before creating a new one on the same site?
