So I started with a blog last year (around July-Aug), made 5+ posts on the blog in the 1st month or so and then left it. I pinged it a few times, did very minimal backlinking. I was checking back up on it a few days back and I saw it was ranked #6 for a KW that gets 4-5k global searches/month. My blog only gets 100 searches/month on average (from Blogger's statistics).

The kicker here is that my blog doesn't have its custom domain, it's registered as : XXXX.blogspot.com

I was considering purchasing the appropriate KW domain for it now, but my question is how can I move it up to #1 considering that the top 2 spots are occupied by Amazon. Should I just purchase an Xrumer/Scrapebox blast and see how it does from there. I personally think that #1 could bring me in some massive daily cash without much work.

    Thanks

Do you think by purchasing a custom domain at this point will ruin my ranking?

I just successfully pushed one of my sites from position 5 to position 2 in a matter of 4 days. All I did was increase the content on the site. I added 25 new keyword rich pages and pinged them only once. Make sure your on page seo is up to the mark.

Thanks, what do you mean by 25 new KW rich pages?

I think with the right seo, this would not be a pain in the $#%

Ok mine was a WP site and for me this is how it worked. I'm assuming you're signed up with webmaster tools already. If you're not, sign up and wait for 3-4 days for it to collect and display all data about your site. Then you need to go to the section which displays what keywords your site ranks for. My site had a list of about 390. I grabbed them all and ran them through various traffic estimation tools. Picked 25 keywords that I thought were closely associated with my main keyword and could bring me some traffic.

I then created 25 new content (text and videos) rich posts. Don't be lazy to fill in detailed title and description for your all-in-one-seo pack plugin. Thats it. Grab those 25 URLs and ping them only once and update your sitemap and then patiently wait.

In 24-48 hours my new posts were indexed and 75% of them hit page one. And last night my main site climbed 3 spots for my main keyword.

In theory there are two major advantages of this method.

    1. Embedding videos from youtube on post pages effectively increases your time on site. The longer a visitor stays on a page the more important Google thinks it is, hence giving you a few more points of authority over the other 9 first pagers.

    2. By selecting new keywords from the webmaster tools list, you're strengthening your site's positions with respect to keywords for which Google already considers your site relevant but ranks it down a few pages.

    This is great information thanks.

I was using related KW's via Google's extensive search features, and just makes pages on them, but I guess I'll try this now! Also, I'm using Blogger (not WP cause I started with Blogger as a newb)..do you think I should shift it over to one of my HG accs and put on WP, or will I lose my already published content in the process and affect my rankings

If you plan to keep this site for a long time, then WP is better because of the plugins, themes etc. From my experience, migration doesn't affect your rankings but they may dance around a bit for a few days. Don't take my word for this though. All I can say is try getting the basic structure, navigation links, header and footer etc in the WP to be as similar to the Blogger as possible.

You want to purchase a new domain and blast it with Xrumer and SB?

In that case, would I not recommend that kind of backlink strategy. That will increase the risk of getting your new domain in a sandbox.

Build a few links everyday and make sure you mix them up.

The keyword must not be competitive if you are #6 with minimum effort. You said "KW that gets 4-5k global searches/month" but your are getting ~100 visits a month. Is that exact searches or broad? You should be getting more traffic with those stats.

I would suggest buy a EMD (exact match domain), do a 301 redirect. Once google indexes your new domain do a couple of small blasts (check out fiverr scrapebox blasts). And see if you get some results. Amazon is relatively easy to out rank since their sub categories have few inbound links (unlike wikipedia).

Also, check your on page SEO (keyword concentration, header tags, title, etc...)

Let us know how it turns out.

    Cheers!

I've already purchased a domain that matches the KW my blog is about, but I've added another KW at the end which matches the general category of what my blog KW falls into.

My on page SEO sucks and I think it's hard with Blogger, any idea how I can do this with Blogger? (besides of course going through the hassle of xferring to WP)

You need two things to help push the domain forward even more.

    1. Backlinks
    2. Content

Backlinks will help you move up for your rankings, you'll want a mixture of backlinks as well. Blog comments, link wheels, article marketing and most of all high PR links. High PageRank links will help you move up in the world of Google, especially when you are already on the first page. Often that's what separates the top half from the bottom half of the first page.

Second you need content. Continue building out pages related to your main keyword for additional secondary keywords. That helps you build out additional traffic and pages which will bring visitors and $$ for you in the long run.

Just wanted to chime in and say...don't be afraid of amazon. They may have an imposing effect to a lot but really, they are not unbeatable by any means, nor is wikipedia etc

Get targeted and have at it
