Hello BHW!
This is new for me, i was asked to "push down the SERP" some results. They are results that mention unpleasant things about a certain person (nothing major). They've been published by a couple of known online tabloids. They are true, nonetheless they would prefer that people don't see them.
I'm thinking creating content to outrank, PPC maybe. Have you come across a request like this? Do you have ideas on how to deal with it?
Cheers!

There are various ways to outrank/remove a particular link.

Some methods are:
Requesting the publisher to take down the article, publishing positive articles with better reputation and domain authority (DA) to outrank them, employing negative SEO tactics to push them down if they are smaller sites (note that this won't work with high DA sites). You can also request Google to remove the link for defamation reasons or use DMCA takedown notices.

Thank you DevMask for your suggestions. 1st and second suggestions sound good, I don't think the agency will engage in neg SEO activities. Going to also use Google reporting options for privacy. I'm also considering creating new citations and see what structured data can be implemented to try and make their brand results take up more px.

Thanks For Sharing This, I Was Unknown To This But Now I've Understand That.
Best Regards.

You can do the Reverse SEO by promoting the positive content on the search name where the negative information is appeared.

I assume the negative posts are ranking for brand terms. In that case, the first thing you should do is create socials everywhere. LinkedIn page, Facebook group, Twitter account, Yelp page etc. Over time those results should come up. This will not work if the company/person is unknown. If that is the case, go ahead and do a press release with links on high profile sites such as Yahoo Finance, Business Insider etc. You need to acquire featured brand posts on high profile sites that end up ranking for everything under the sun. Look into parasites as well.

Create positive content around the name of the person. This will help in supressing the negative contents in search redults.

Publish a good content about that person on the quality sites will help you to push down the bad results.

If you're dead set on utilizing suppression tactics to hide the negative content, then I suggest doing the following:

- Build links to sites ranking alongside the negative results that are either neutral or positive.
- Build positive news about yourself and repost to top blogging outlets (there's hundreds). Get IFTTT
- Do a press release on something charitable you've done (make sure it get syndicated to reputable, high-DA sites)
- Fill out directory and profiles and link them back to a positive piece or asset
- Create fluff arguments online between you and an overreacting consumer and win the argument by being the better brand. Use keywords that are currently pulling up negative results for you, in the fluff piece aka rip off, scam etc. This is best executed in posts on common parasite sites like Reddit, Linkedin, Medium, etc.

Keep in mind though that suppression is best executed if you had a major PR crisis that resulted in a ton of negative press on very high-DA sites. If you only have just one or two negative articles, then my agency would typically just utilize an outright removal tactic to get rid of them such as DMCA. But again, this is largely contingent on how reputable the tabloids in question are (i.e. NY Post or Daily Mail being much more difficult to remove than say KNewz or The-Sun).
