I was looking at purchasing a used car, but the car is located in New York. I currently don't have no auto insurance (simply because my only car blew the engine a while back.) HOWEVER, a relative had added me on to their auto insurance.

I'm supposed to go get the car tomorrow but the question is will I be able to get the car from NY tomorrow and drive it back 200 miles to where I live without any issues. I'm assuming I'm going to need some tags as well or something to get it back.

So my questions are:

1. Will I be able to purchase it from the private seller tomorrow and drive it back without getting auto insurance in my name first?
2. What do I do to go about getting a temporary tag from the DMV if the title isn't in my name?

Any help is appreciated...

No offense but shouldn't you be talking to your local dmv office? I mean here we can buy 30 day temporary tags for automobiles, I'm sure your state has something like that.

^^ Yeah, but I don't know that much about temp. tags. I thought maybe the title had to be in your name before you could get any kind of tags. I'll get in touch with my DMV office though about that.

Question is, I don't have any insurance in my name, although I'm on a relative's insurance policy. I tried to get insurance but they said I need to have the title in my name first. So I guess just fill out the title and then call the insurance company or something?

Thanks for the help patrick
