almost a year ago I registered a .ceo domain name at namecheap. now that it is coing up for renewal the renewal cost is 258. I contacted namecheap and asked them why. they said the TLD of the .CEO has labeled my domain name as a premium domain name and that they can change the renewal price at any time. This is F'ed up.... Can this be true. How can I verify this. has anyone else run into this situation?

Shit, I've got a .io I wasn't looking forward to. But that's nuts.

How much did you initially pay for it?

thanks guys just got off phone to verify the transfer fee with domain.com 99.99 I have been with namecheap for about 4 years and never had this kind of pricing issue before. Namecheap had told me it is not a fee that they charge but the "TLD" and they said all registrars would have to charge the same..... Got totally different answer from domain.com .... will start the transfer process. Will post again if there is any issues.

Thanks again and special thanks to RAINS,,, I had not even considered transferring it or doing business with another registrar. I have always been loyal to namecheap.

A lot of complaints about Namecheap lately (if I understood you correctly). I've had nothing but good experiences with them and their support, but I am a rather easy customer, as I buy .com mostly. Good to know you've solved it, as that price is outrageous.

Are you sure? Because when a domain is premium, they are premium everywhere because it's not the registrant that decide the premium renewal they just add a small mark up to the basic renewal. Doublecheck with other registrant too, recently all the three letters and four letters .co domain became premium renewals because the company behind decided they wanted more profit while few years ago they were all the same price

You were right even though domain.com told me it would renew at only $99 and came back same price as namecheap $157. Someone above mention pork bun . At least they were correct in telling me about the TLD premium domain charge but they were able to renew it for me at only $117. I think it is still a good domain name I just don't believe that the tlds can arbitrarily raise the price at any time and it pisses me off.

Sadly they can, there are no regulations. Thats one of the reason to stick with the most common tld, most of the gLTD and ccltd change rules everytime
