Publishing news on my site - Penalty?

I recently just completed a site for one of my clients who runs a law firm. There's really very little content except for the company's information, the lawyer's background and services offered.

The website has a section where my client (the lawyer) would like to publish all his cases on his site, which are obtained from our local newspapers' site and there are literally hundreds of pages of them.

My question is, will these copy pasting articles from newspaper on the site cause penalty in terms of SEO? What should I do?

Copy and pasting any content which is already on the internet will/can cause penalty.
Best way to get around is to rewrite article in your own way

What? You seriously want to re-write a newspaper article that talks about his client cases? That's a shitty advice.

Personally, I would copy/paste them, add a credit to the original source and noindex the page.

Noindex means Google will just ignore it --> Not in search result ---> No penalty. So if that's the case op wants then this is the best way to go.

And for copyright issue I think adding the source will do the trick.

many sites do it and it's not illegal.. be sure to do two things btw..

1. add some summery of that news before you copy paste the article.
2. Add credit link to the source article.

Btw, now a days, it is not all about organic seo, but also about social traffic. If you can bring in social traffic, you wont even need the google orgy traffic.

As I understand

- Your client wants to publish his own cases which is in offline mode (Published locally in newspaper)

If this is the case, you should go for this. As other suggested, you can always give the credit back to newspaper. I understand you are doing it for SEO purpose, so making it noindex is not a good idea.

You have not mentioned if the local newspaper you are talking about has online edition too? or its a printed copy

OP; don't rewrite a news article. Just put it on the site, cite back the source and you'll be fine.
I was recently fighting with a law firm, and their website had a news style ticker rolling across it or recently won cases.

Rewrite is not good at all. Google does not like it and detects it quite easily. It is better to create unique content (they say it's a king

) and insert links to the sources. You may add some short note, but it should be unique and useful.

im talking only for section where lawyer post newspaper articles. im not saying to block all website! do you thing google will index dublicated content? (im not english native) hope understed what im talking about

This thread is about a law firm that wants to show off won cases. They won't use these articles and cases to rank for search terms I guess but to convert visitors.

I would simply noindex them too. Your client will be happy and your SEO won't be negative affected.

Who on earth would rewrite TRUSTWORTHY testimonials from newspapers are INSANE. People pay thousands for top editorial reviews etc.

OP should take screenshot of testimonials covering his cases then add screenshot to page AND then add his own writing regarding the case.

Just write a paragraph or two summary at the top, drop some internal links in there, and link to the original source. EZ PZ.

If you state the source at the bottom, it's called content syndication and it's perfectly normal.

LOL, why don't u link the source there?

Don't rewrite, deindex etc - just give credit to the source and you will be fine.

Another option is to make the titles and link the source to them - don't publish the articles at all on the website.

You have 2 solutions :

The first one you copy a piece of the content (Like 200-300 words) with the credits (Source link) and no index the content

The second one is to create unique content indexed -> SEO is ok
