Hi BHW,

Need a few technical pointers in terms of social media & proxies.

Goal:
-Create & run (hopefully long term) social medias for marketing (OFM) mainly on IG & TT. Short term starting with 3-5 profiles, long term maybe 10-15.
-Avoid showing my actual IP & location.

I went with the standard: purchase Android mobile, purchase US static residential proxy, for 1-2 profiles of each IG & TT per device & IP. Device is Android 15. I do not have a SIM or any way to procure it so it will work on my WIFI. device i brought doesn't support eSIM either.

Turns out, the proxy can only be set in WIFI & 'authenticated' through browser, but it seems using apps directly like IG/TT will try to bypass it ?

So far my limited research shows:
Either I need to root device, or
install some third party apps to force proxy 'through vpn' devicewide but the apps will detect it as a vpn. (suggestions?)

Can i get some pointers on whether my setup is correct & the only way is through these third party apps. while my device is new, apps may still see the 'vpn', would that affect my accounts long term ? Any other options ?

Your current setup using a US static residential proxy is a good start. However, it's essential to ensure proper proxy configuration for the apps themselves since they often bypass the system-wide proxy settings.

Yes, any pointers on how I go about this ? I am aware tele has options to place proxy in the their app, but what about IG & TT ?

ProxyDroid (for rooted devices) or Shadowsocks that allow you to specify which apps to route through the proxy while leaving others unaffected.

It’s normal that IG and TikTok try to bypass WiFi-level proxy settings - the apps use their own connection methods, so a simple WiFi proxy isn’t enough. For mobile account management, your setup is only partly correct. If you’re not using a SIM card and can’t use an eSIM, then the only way to route all traffic through your residential proxy is either rooting the device or using a VPN-style tunneling app that forces the proxy system-wide. Yes, the apps will usually detect this as a VPN, but that alone doesn’t cause issues as long as your IP quality is good and consistent. What hurts accounts more is switching IPs too often or mixing mobile IP + proxy + home WiFi.

If you want to avoid rooting, the safest setup is: devicewide proxy/VPN tunneling + stable residential IP + keeping each account on the same device/IP long term. Plenty of agencies run IG/TT accounts this way without problems. Rooting gives more control, but it’s not required unless you need perfect emulation of mobile data. If you ever get access to SIM/eSIM, that’s even better, but your current approach can still work long-term as long as the IP stays stable.

I don’t think IG or TT ban accounts just for detecting a VPN. I think they also check whether the IP is clean and consistent, and whether the device fingerprint looks stable.

Appreciate the detailed replies.

Considering my current situation & setup, I proceeded with VPN tunelling without root. (Android)
Since I use pingproxies, I tried ShadowSocks which didnt seem to work due to needing some 'encrypt method(?)' which pingproxies didn't give, then tried OpenVPN Connect & Psiphon which didnt work either until settling with Super Proxy.

Super Proxy works, except, I need to turn on the WiFi first then the VPN/PROXY, in that order. I do have always on VPN configured but don't see any 'killswitch' options.

My last worry here is leaks. Mainly since I am in a different country from the one I am marketing to & the socials are based on. Also, since the same WiFi wil be used for multiple devices & accounts (but with different proxies) I am fine forcing the entire mobile's connections through the VPN & don't need to use for only specific apps.

Any suggestions for securing against proxy/app failures & leaks? Or other VPN tunnel options that have something inbuilt ?

Use high quality 4G (or residential) proxies instead of VPNs and make sure the IPs haven’t been (ab)used prior. When you’re using a VPN you’ll get the same ISP IP assigned as many other users and your account has a much higher risk of getting flagged.

I am using paid Residential Static Proxies, just using them through VPN tunneling apps since I need them on mobile with no sims. I do see my assigned proxy IP's in IP checker sites, my worry is DNS leaks due to the tunelling apps.

To use applications through a proxy on a mobile device, you can use some specialized app for this. For example:
For iOS — Potatso
For Android — Shadowrocket

With these apps, you can route all phone traffic through a proxy, including traffic from installed applications, which should resolve your issue.

However, considering the number of accounts you plan to manage, the better long-term practice is to use an antidetect browser on a PC, with a separate profile for each account, an individual fingerprint, and a unique proxy. This approach provides maximum security and helps ensure long-term account stability, assuming you develop the accounts properly and carefully.

datecenter proxies get detected very quickly. mobile IPs are shared among users and considered legitimate by instagram/fb/tiktok. keep the ip the same during the same session and rotate when u switch to another account.

not all carriers give u truly mobile IPs.. in singapore SIMBA carrier mobile IP is not rotatable. also keep your fingerprints clean, browser profiles with unique canvas and webgl hashes matter just as much as the proxy itself.

android's wifi proxy setting isn't a proper device-wide tunnel. some apps can ignore it, so testing the IP in chrome doesn't mean instagram or tiktok are using the same connection. i'd check the actual app traffic before considering rooting the phone.
