Is it possible to set up a sensible proxy on a shared host. The reason I ask is I have loads of different IPs on shared hosting that I use for web hosting, and I'm wondering if I could sneak some proxy use out of them.

I'm not talking heavy load, each IP will probably use less than half a dozen pages a day through the proxy. But it must be a proper proxy that I can use with PHP CURL and Apps etc.

Is it possible?

You are not allowed to setup a web proxy in the most shared hosting. Read their TOS.
But you can give it a try if you'll use it only you and for few pages. Don't forget to hide the script for public access.
Cheers.

Any recommended scripts?

Use Glype it's the best one at this time.

Does Glype allow applications etc. to run though it, or is it purely a web based thing?

it's a bad idea. if your proxy gets even remotely popular you will suffer horribly.

Read the thread, the proxy is for my private use only, and for a specific task of 2/3 pages a day per proxy.
