So today I logged into my PayPal and I was met with this:

    Paypal.JPG

Yet... I am English. I use my (home) English IP, verified the account with my +44 Number, verified my address and also sent them an English Passport (All the info is legit bar the YOB and the picture).

So my question to you guys is, why do they want my US tax details?

just logged into my own UK paypal and got no such notice.

you don't owe them anything and are not legally obliged to hand out any kind of information to the USA/IRS, remember that.

You are from US ? if yes the just give them details. Paypal will transfer your account transaction info to tax authority like they do in India.

If he's not from the United States, which he claims he's not, no they can't. OP, either its a mistake on their side, or they do want your tax info and thats just a general message with the IRS in it and they don't actually mean IRS, but your own government tax. I'd just press skip and leave it and see what happens.

Just so you know, the IRS and I'm sure other big countries taxers do work directly with PP to make sure they get their money.

I'm not from the US though.

Yeah I'm not going to :)

    I'm British

Yeah, I'm just going to leave it. Maybe it's the fact that I work with a few $ deals, but all my legit info is English. Strange

I just navigated to some resolution page as it said "Some sections of your account may be limited" or something.

There I clicked "I'm not a US citizen" and a few other options along those lines.

    Just got this mail:

    "
    Dear [Name],

Thanks for providing your tax ID number. If you exceed the reporting thresholds set by the IRS, we'll send Form 1099-K to you and the IRS early next year. If we need more information to provide your Form 1099-K, we'll contact you.

    Yours sincerely,
    Your PayPal team "

I guess that did the trick, but what're they sending to me next year?

Click "remind me later." Eventually it will stop asking. I see this every year since the DONKEYs passed this law to require Paypal to get this info. I also have multiple bank accounts and multiple paypal accounts to "spread the love" around during the year.

Since you're from Britain, why did you own a US paypal account? +44 is Britain's phone domain, or am I wrong?
