I am not sure if an article directory would work unless you had one article pointing to a specific "similar" article on your site. I have had some success with blogs however. My experience is if you visit blogs and Stay on Topic... you can have some success with linking to specific articles that answer the questions and comments in the blog thread. For example... lets say you are reading a blog on the best way to clean your colon... as you read through the blog people will comment with questions, comments etc. Using this information create an article and post it on your site then leave a comment that links directly to the article on your site.
