I wrote a paper for English class that details the existence of life after death. Just thought someone out there may be interested. Lemme know what you think.

Yes, this really does prove post-mortem consciousness. Read and learn. I'll back every line I wrote there.

    Just a docx file.

First of all how do you know your officially dead? When I seemingly die if I am financially able(can't predict the future). I am going to be frozen by the "cryonics" method like baseball player ted williams. They say in 20 years there may be technology to make it happen. I am not debating if that is fact or fiction, but, I sure think it sounds cool. In the meantime preserving the body until that day comes sounds like a plan.:)

seances and NDE as proof..... meh i dunno

Sure there are odd experiences that occur in both situations, it doesn't prove afterlife of any kind though

That was a great read pewep, thanks for sharing it. I read a lot on spitiruality, metaphysics and philsophy myself so I support a lot of the points suggested in that paper. I think the research and experiments which support life after death are generally unaccepted because they deviate from conventional textbook science.

Similarly, there is so much evidence that supports reincarnation. A few months ago I finished a book on theoretical physics and quantum mechanics by Micael Talbot called The Holographic Universe. There's a chapter that covers Dr. Joel Whitton's hypnosis research. He is a professor of psychiatry whom spent several decades gathering evidence suggestive of reincarnation. His research is based on a simple and startling fact - that 93 percent of all hypnotizable individuals are able to recall apparent memories from what appear to be previous existences.

Many researchers argue that such memories are fantasies or fabrications of the unconscious mind. To conduct his research, Whitton gathered a diverse core group of thirty people from all walks of lives, some of whom believed in reincarnation and some whom did not. He hypnotized them and spent thousands of hours recording every detail they recalled from their previous existences.

The information he retrieved was amazing - one striking aspect was the degree of agreement between the subjects' experiences. Many of the subjects also gave uncannily accurate historical details about the times in which they lived. Some even spoke languages unknown to them. All reported numerous lives, some as many as 20 - 25. All reported gender was not specific to the soul, and all reported that the purpose of life was to evolve and learn, and that multiple existences facilitated this.

i dont believe in life after death

But NDE's would be a good way to prove it.

The problem with most of the NDE studies is, there just not very scientific.

The most genius method devised in my opinion is to place an upward facing sentence over the operating table, and see if, when revived, the patient is able to recall this sentence.

Its a shame that there have been a couple of these experiments and no one got the sentence right.

This makes me really doubtful of NDE's

But I would encourage hospitals to do more experiments like this.

    Heres a sample:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    (4) Scrolling LED displays are used to test for veridical perception.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1993, Madelaine Lawrence did a more sophisticated study at Hartford Hospital with a scrolling LED display spelling out a nonsense phrase. She was working in the electrophysiology clinic where, in order to heal severe arrhythmias, they stop people's hearts and then resuscitate them, a situation artificially productive of NDEs. No one on the hospital staff knew what the LED device was displaying. Unfortunately, Lawrence's position as head nurse was eliminated after about six months of this, which ended the project without
any results. However, the creator of the targets is eager to construct them for others who attempt similar research. Read more at this page: http://www.esalenctr.org/display/confpage.cfm?confid=3&pageid=22&pgtype=1

And a pretty good documentary on Reincarnation

the kid got half the stats right.

    so, oh well.

I don't think it can be proven... at least not yet. But anyway I think it's interesting. will read it tonight.

Guys, 90% of you are commenting without even reading. I already answer all your skepticism and much more. Near death experiences as presented only have ONE logical conclusion: the existence of life after death.

    o rly?

Do they actually only have one logical conclusion or only one logical conclusion that your brain can comprehend?

    There's an interesting question.

It's the same one that all theists should answer if they actually endeavour to find honest answers.

i remember reading about a woman who was someone else in a past life,
and she discovered the person that she "had been", was still alive.

seems that she had read about the person in a book when she was a child
and recalled it under hypno therapy. :D

There really is only one conclusion. Please refer to my 2nd paragraph. What you think you know and the truth are two totally different things ;).

Thanks to all that read and commented. I truly appreciate it.

The fact is that NEAR death experiences prove only one thing, that there is life BEFORE death.

The human conciousness is tied to the functions of the brain, which relies on electrical connections and electrical activity to carry messages and information from one part of the brain to another and to collate and process data sent back from the various nerves in the body.

What happens is that for quite some time after the heart stops beating and the body stops breathing etc, there is still electrical activity and a measure of life in the brain.
This is why people can often be revived after they are pronouced "Clinically Dead".

A function built in to our brains in an effort to preserve life in extream circumstances is the shutting down of non essential functions. So the vision is shut down, as the last of the light processed by the part of the brain responsible to translating vision is seen, it appears as a tunnel with a bright light at the end. This is simply a combination of the visual functions of the brain and the memory functions of the brain working together.

Under these circumstances as the brain starts to become starved of Oxygen, it begins to malfunction, mixing information stored as memories (such as relative and freinds) with the parts of the brain that is normally used for processing information as is occurs. (a similar thing also happens at other times and is experienced as "DeyJavu", except that this is in reverce where information that should be processed in the brain as currently occuring is processed by mistake as a memory first and then rerouted to be processed as "currently happening") Instead processing a delusional mixture of memories and activity of the mind to produce experiences that are not genuinely occuring, but feel like they are.

Similar experiences have not been restricted to those in near-death situations. They can also occur in connection with "fatigue, fever, epileptic attacks, drug abuse."
A neurosurgery pioneer, Wilder Penfield, who operated on epileptics who were under local anesthesia, made an interesting discovery. He found that by stimulating different parts of the brain with an electrode, he could cause the patient to have the feeling of being outside his own body, traveling through a tunnel, and meeting dead relatives.

"These are the experiences of a mind in an abnormal state physiologically .**.**. The brain is a very complex organ and it can play a lot of tricks when you mistreat it—look at the experiences with hallucinogenic drugs." An Ohio psychiatrist: "These reports are fantasies or hallucinatory phenomena." A Michigan scientist: "These are trauma-induced fantasies."

I have a bachelors degree in cognitive science

we simply don't yet know enough about the neurobiological basis for consciousness to conclude much at all.

If, for example, we even knew (FOR SURE) what caused consciousness, then maybe we could start to make such claims.

But there are currently just way too many unknowns.

I'm sorry pewep but this is wrong.
Physicist already calculated that there is no life after death.
See your body is using energy, all energy is in balance in the universe.
You take your energy from food. And use it. That doesn't go away.

Now if there were life after death you would have to have some way to continue that flow.
Which you can't cause you don't have a body anymore.
You can only use the energy left behind from your trail.
Therefor after death you can not go forward only backwards.
If you go backwards you come back to life.
Which no one does so no after life.
    Simple physics.

    There is however one theorie that can not be crushed as of yet;
    Thats this guys book;
    Code:
    http://www.anthonypeake.com/
That you relive life over and over. Or enternal after life you could call it.
