For something like POD, yea it'd work quite well. But you'd be banned off the subs in a day or so most likely.
 
it really depends on how you do it and where you post it.
sometimes it will work, other times you get banned for spamming.
make sure to use an account with enough karma otherwise you will be ghosted or even banned fast.

Don't just post your product link, you need to find clever ways to do this but it can work well. I've done pictures of products for particularly unique products that can generate interest (and allow you to link to the product) in the comment section.
