Promote music - need expert advice

Looking to put together a new site that will be promoting music / local bands. I know there are a few experts in BHW that have been very successful in promoting local bands. I was hoping some of you would share some of the things you did to make your site successful. I would imagine social sites are key. Thanks in advance and look forward to all replies.
