    Guys,

I need a project management software that allows the following:

    1. Create Projects.
    2. Within each Project you can have a list of Tasks.
    3. You assign each Task to a Worker. Worker gets email notification of Task etc.
    4. Worker can only see the Tasks he is assigned to and NOT other tasks.
    5. I can upload documents and files and each Worker can only see the documents/files I permit them to.

I've looked at activeCollab, Basecamp, Project2Manage, GoPlan and Collabtive.

Not one of them allows you to restrict Worker's access/view of tasks. Basically for each of these software, if you give a Worker access to a Project, he can see every task and every document within the Project.

    Any ideas?

It's been quite some time since I used Project from Microsoft I seem very user friendly and I had 15 employees doing several different project and I was able to restrict access and information I was on a LAN so everyone had a laptop and was able to do updates from their laptops or just log in from a remote computer check for any info or updates.
    Good Luck

I've built a project management system in php/mysql. It also keeps track of time sheets and payments. It allowed me to triple my business without having to hire a project manager.

Something that I have on my "to do" list for the next quarter

Looking at a few of yours, also looking at
    Code:
    http://www.openworkbench.org/
For basic scheduling / management, could one do something with the Microsoft Office / Google Docs suite? (ie maybe have a sheet with a "to do" list linking to each individual worker?

also going to look at google wave

Have not personally worked with MS/GOOG in this capacity, however being geared more towards the enterprise level than what you're looking at, it may be a better option

    List of more PM software:
    Code:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_project_management_software
Let me know how it works out!

I just find it so hard to believe that all the software I have tried has this same issue. Why would I want to give everyone who has an individual task to do in a Project access to all other tasks in that Project? It doesn't make any sense.

Take a look over here at easyprojects.net
If I understand corectly in this one you can set user permisions, to view or not all the projects.

drupal cms drupal.org does have a "project" module, although i have never used it.
    Code:
    [url]http://drupal.org/project/project[/url]
it's an open source cms, so its completely free.
who sees and uses what is controlled by creating "roles" and the use of permissions.
you should ask your question here
    Code:
    [url]http://drupal.org/forum/20[/url]
    ++++++++++
i have never used an online project management software, i was looking at basecamp because a website is using it. surprised to hear there is not more control over who sees what.
    good luck!

Projectile does everything you just stated. Multiple users allows for multiple tasks, each to his own worker. Projectile also handles invoicing and time tracking, which helps me a ton. Check it out, it's new and comes with a 30 day free trial. Just google "projectilepro", its not letting me post a link :\

For my experience, I only use eTaskMan to handle and assign tasks. It 's because it's free and it's a web based site. Normally, I am not in the office so when the new project arrives, i can assign to my co-worker online immediately. Not only that, they use tag function allowing to save time to switch to other projects.
