My Journey Through Online Business - A Personal Accountability Thread
Hey BHW community! I'm starting this thread mainly to keep myself accountable, but also to share my experiences and maybe help others along the way. I've been around the block a few times with online business, and I thought I'd share my story - both successes and failures.
The Early Days: Trial and Error
I've dabbled in quite a few ventures over the years:
- Started with Google Ads in the insurance niche, pulling in $30 per lead. Was pretty successful until the cease and desist letters started rolling in! Looking back, I really didn't know much about ad optimization, but it still worked.
- Moved into blogging and forex trading using algorithmic/evolutionary strategies. The forex stuff showed promise but started feeling too much like gambling for my taste.
- Had a stint with Twitter automation for adult offers back in 2013. That worked until my bot servers started getting hit with DDOS attacks.
The Tech Transition
The game-changer for me was learning to code. I started bidding on Python development jobs on freelance boards, building up a portfolio of case studies. This led to local contracting work at $300/day in my early 20s – giving me capital to reinvest in education and new ventures. As I grew in tech, I explored:
- Machine learning and TensorFlow (2016)
- Large language models
- Video generation
- Static Site Generators
Current Focus: Content Sites
My latest venture is all about content websites, and I've learned some interesting lessons:
- Running a WordPress blog with spintax/Quillbot strategy that hit several thousand daily visitors (before Google penalties struck)
- Currently have one site doing 1000+ hits daily
- Several other sites in various stages of development
- Found that posting regularity is crucial for getting out of the sandbox
My Philosophy
- I focus purely on content – no link building (though I'm open to evidence that it works)
- Target boring, unsexy niches
- Persistence is key – most of my past failures came from giving up too soon
- Keep costs low through automation and efficient content generation
Moving Forward
I'm doubling down on what works: creating more sites in proven niches and focusing attention on those that show ranking potential. I'll use this thread to track progress and share insights.Happy to answer questions or help others who are starting out, but remember – this is primarily my accountability journal to keep myself on track.
Note: While I'm posting on a blackhat forum, I maintain strong ethical standards in my work. I've moved away from certain practices (like adult offers and Spotify botting) that made me uncomfortable, focusing instead on creating genuine value.
