So, soon I will be selling some domains here (dont PM me) if I don't sell them privately and one of these is standing out.

One of the domains I acquired is performing better then the most of the live blogs out there. It was a web site in social media influence niche. Just for the test I set a landing page (offering beta access to this "new startup" if you sign up). I connected the signup with mailchimp and I noticed people actually started signing up!

Domain gets some 40-ish visits daily, and these are mostly people that read articles on big sites and then they click a link and end up on my domain.

So, we got 528 visits so far and out of those 528 visitors 115 signed up for beta entry. Thats more than 20% !!

    What I learned from this.

    1. How to earn millions with random startup- Create some app or web app that leans toward social media (anything related to instagram, pinterest or whatever) and create a buzz about it. If your site ends up featured at TechCrunch you will get thousands of signups , which may lead to millions of users once you launch the service (if people like the service). Once you gain the traction competition will try to acquire you for millions of dollars (so they can close you). Of course you accept the offer.

    2. I am in the wrong business.

Seriously. I met a kid that had his startup acquired by Twitter. They didn't even have a business that was making money. In fact, he was $100K in debt and they didn't even have a working model. Fucking insane. Now he never has to work again...ever...

I'm now throwing out the word "distruptive" every 5th word.....and I only drink IPA's now (trendy fucking hipster thing to do)....man, I can't wait to get acquired...

    Are you serious?

Skyrocket just gave you a valuable insight into consumer behaviour - it's an insight you could use to create interest, demand, sign ups, conversions and money!

Some people don't get it even when it's handed to them on a plate.

Does the domain you acquired was featured in TechCrunch? And for your learning, these acquisitions doesn't happen as easily as you think and more so you just can't lay a plan for it.

I dunno about all that, I've been coming across plenty of domains that are expired yet still ranking for some terms so it stands to reason that there would be plenty of domains out there with some great links that are driving direct traffic. I haven't seen it because I haven't really had much chance to look into that type of domain and concentrate more on SERP ability as opposed to direct traffic but I will definitely be on the look out for these types of domains from here on.

I always appreciate an insight into something that may not be totally obvious to all.

I know that there are really powerful expired domains out there, I've acquired a few of them in the past including few well known social network site with millions of users (the site was crashed and it never took off again) and tech startups. But my point is they are good for SEO purposes more than rebuilding the business from the scratch after the previous owners discarded them. And as for the planning a business to be acquired by your competitor, try it 100 times and you'll fail 100 times.

You made it sound really simple though, it can take several months or even years to develop a useful app, i know some people who are working on their apps for like 1 year and still fixing bugs before actually launching it. Plus it has to be a unique idea, not just a copy of other app in order to get mentioned on sites like tech crunch, you can also buy a tech crunch post but it will not go viral unless the app is actually useful and unique.

Also i agree with one of the above poster, if you make an app just so they can get acquired by big companies, you will fail 100 out of 100 times.
