Let's see :)

30 bucks profit per item - not a hard thing to accomplish.

Fitting it in a backpack / shoulder bag does restrict the selection a bit, though.

Problem i see is the full time job. If you do find something that makes you money and sales are getting bigger there will be a time when you have to decide.

Go for it all the way or not ?

That's the real hard decision to be made when time comes. Not enough time in a day anymore to do both - go to work and do your sales. Free time and social life is already suspended by then for a while.

Income from the online sales do not quite yet justify quitting your job but , darn, there ain't enough hours in a day.

As for what kind of goods to sell - yes, asking here is a long shot at best :)

There are plenty of cheap tablets on alibaba you could easily resell for a $30+ profit... a standard back pack should hold at least 5 or 6...

He wants to have a side income, not a side headache....

Haha! Thanks for the tips guys. I'm still none the wiser really, but its encouraging to know that it is possible and all of the margins haven't been squeezed out by sellers continuously undercutting each other to oblivion.

Any other thoughts?

Cheers

For many items that are being sold the oblivion part is true enough.

Before you start sourcing for a product you should check what suits your account best.
I simply assume that you are planning on ebay selling - correct me if I'm wrong.

Listing limits will sort of dictate what kind of stuff you will be selling . No sense in selling 20 dollar items on a 10/1000 account. You will never reach your revenue limit and ebay will see no need to increase your limits and you'll be waiting forever to get anything rolling.

Higher limits, let's say 1000 / 25.000 or similar and you can get into much smaller stuff and do 30 sales a day with a 3/4 dollar profit per sale. More labels to print but still only a backpack full of stuff.

After you figured out what is what the sourcing begins. That's the hard part. Finding a good enough product is killer and finding a reliable and knowledgeable supplier is even harder.

It's not good enough anymore to go to some Chinese website and hope for the best.

Most profit is not made on the item itself, it's in the shaved total cost per item. A good supplier knows how to ship the products the most efficient way.

And on and on and on.....

Lot's of things to learn and consider

Anyways, good luck for your venture - and I really mean it. You seem to be a nice guy. Don't fall for any BS.
