Does any one else here suffer from this?

I had it bad in uni were I knew assignments and projects had to be in yet i'd leave it until the night before to do them. Now it's different, I work at home and my only income is money I make online yet I still don't do the things I really need to do. I keep putting things off and end up playing FIFA or some other unrelated thing.

Does anyone have any tips on how to overcome this pure laziness? :)

If you have this problem, then other people also. This is very common here.

I'm not saying the pareto (80/20) rule is all about procrastination, but I think it has fairly big share in it.

That's why 20% or even more people in the world are responsible for 80% of the whole income.

How to overcome it ? Best way is to imagine what you will get once you start working on your postponed projects, what will be the award for completing of the tasks.

If you have problem with clear thinking it's high time to make some exercises. There is nothin better than huge physical effort if you need your mind to get refreshed to get back on track.

I know exactly how you feel. It doesn't help that I have my ps3 hooked up to my second monitor.

My suggestion would be thinking about it in 5 minute chucks, as getting started is the hard part.

Tell yourself that your going to commit for 5 whole minutes, most of the time when you do this 5 minutes flys by and you find yourself working.

I should delete all these games from this computer really and install them on my other one. I just cant help myself though.

@xrfanatic I know what I will get if i get down and do the work it just doesnt motivate me the way it should. If i left the house and went to an office it would be different I would feel like I SHOULD be working rather than could work, you know. Maybe I should rent an office :)

@Mulct When I start working I work until the early hours of the morning most of the time from dinner time or so. That doesnt happen daily though lol

    - Lay down for 10 minutes
    - Close your eyes
    - Seriously imagine yourself being poor (no food, no internet, no video games)
    - Wake up, feeling motivated, and get back to work

    (serious)

Self control. There is no self determination unless there is self control.

What you are doing is called self-sabotage. It has something to do with your mind thinking you do not deserve success, sometimes because an authority figure in your life always told you so, or you do not want to overshadow the authority figure with success, or you're afraid that success will deprive you of something, or even that you are so afraid of trying and not succeeding, you make a half assed attempt and constantly hinder your own progress.

Don't worry, it just means you are as fucked up in your own unique way as the rest of us are.

Use an egg timer and set it for an hour when you start working. Work for that hour before you go play. If you find yourself wandering, your punishment is to restart that hour from the beginning, no matter how long you have worked, get the full hour without wandering, or reset the clock.

You can only play for 1/4th as long as you work, so work for 4 one hour shifts, play for one hour, then back to work.

DAMN, I have to reset mine.....

    I'm similar.

The last 2.5 weeks I've been watching the Tour de France live. It's not as if anything particularly happens in it either!!

I've realized procrastination is nothing else but you not wanting to do the hard work it takes to be successful.

Just an aside - my mate set up a group on Meetup (dot) com for procrastinators.

He got loads of members so he thought he'd organise a meet in a pub (London).

    Nobody turned up :)
