Alright, so I purchased a domain and I forwarded this domain to go to an affiliate link page. My question is, am I able to actually do SEO for my domain and possibly rank keywords I'm going for?

So basically - my domain forwards to affiliate link
If I build backlinks and do the appropriate SEO can I rank keywords or is it a lost cause?

I don't know much about this area regarding redirects but just from other SEO knowledge I'd say problems you might meet are: being penalized for duplicate content or being penalized for a gateway site. I know google hates gateway sites which is what this is.. I doubt it would work as G can see that you're just redirecting to another domain which it probably already has indexed.. You're not bringing any benefit to their search engine so I doubt they'll rank it/index it

There's no point since you won't be ranking your domain (which contains the 301). You'll be ranking the URL which your domain points to, since your domain will act as a 1st tier backlink to the affiliate domain, and all your SEO to your site will be 2nd tier backlinks. So you're essentially passing your linkjuice to the affiliate URL.

I often wonder how it would work with rankings if you could setup a page with decent keyword targeted content. Then setup a time delayed redirect to a affiliated sales page of between 30 and 60 seconds???

I ever do this, but not redirecting the domain. I use framing. So, the content of new domain is just frame that catch my affiliate link.

At this way i can add Head and meta tag, like description, keyword and other meta tag in html code. The site, just because of this is a framing site, looks the same with the original site where i promote my affiliate link there. And build link as much as i can.

At that time, my site even rank just second spot below the original site.

But with redirect, i don't think so..

Hey what about just getting your aff link to the top of Google, is that possible? Page is already optimized for your keywords, couldn't you just build a ton of link with good keyword anchors and rank the aff page? I know duplicate content might be a problem, but what do you think? Possible?

That's a good question but I thought google doesn't show affiliate links in it's results.
