I know there's tons of threads on private networks but can anyone with expertise tell me if it's truly worth it? Especially if starting a small network? I'm looking to optimize around ten sites in the same niche and cam build a network of upto 30 sites pr3-5 would 30 links be significant or barely make a dent in a tough niche? Basically is it worth the cost if I don't plan on selling links

But is 20-30 PR3 Sites and maybe 5 PR5 site going to be worth the money in term of SEO if we are not selling links? Meaning our OBL will only be to our 10 sites in that niche

This is something that has always interested me. I have the money to invest now, and (almost!) the time. It would simplify my SEO efforts in many respects to have my own network, and it would give me a lot of independence.

Does anyone know of any good guides for setting up a Private Blog Network? In return I offer my thanks, reputation and gratitude!

if you going to do 10 domains just put 5 domains an godady and 5 other domain and some random hosting. google wont be able to track your blog networks.

That guide give you the basics of what you need but is a bit outdated to what you really need.

Thanks, that site looks great. The biggest hurdle to all of my SEO/Online Marketing endeavours is simply finding the TIME to do them. But this is a mad investment into my future, so you gotta do what you gotta do.

    Interesting, how so?

    Hey richie311

From a cost / benefit perspective - there is no denying if they are all in the same niche - your own private network is the way to go.
However - since I have some experience in this - what I would do is start it small - the effort to maintain the high PR sites - and Im not talking just about the linking - its adding new content and just keeping them up to date is a timely exercise.

Although my sites are spread across multiple C class SEO hosting - I dont think its worth the extra effort and cost (ive got 2 seperate networks - 1 for clients and 1 for my own stuff - and I do not see much of a difference in the link juice from both.
However - for whatever reason - clients seem to think that sites spread across multiple A/B/C class IPs are necessary - and so we provide what the client wants. And since I provide links on that network - Ive had to go with the more expensive SEO hosting option.

If it is only for your sites (mini network) I would just go with reseller hosting or similar. I might be shot down for saying this - but I have seen no negative effects on my personal money sites and all are doing well in this regard.

Obviously depends on your niche and the competition, but 30 High PR3-5 sites linking to money site would rocket me to top 10 quite easily.. but then again Im not in majorly competitive niches.

My keywords aren't super competitive but they are pretty competitive with half the first page being big time companies with PR6 domains.

If I have 30 sites in my network and they all have 10 OBL to the same 10 Domains will that be a huge problem/flag in G?

I built some parts of my blog network on free blogging systems like blogger, WP and so. If you try it, use different IP address for posting to blogs so Google won't be able to track you. You'll save some money.

Reading over the guide, an interesting question came up which I had to agree with. What do you do about the fact that PR drops off of these websites over time? How do you maintain the PR?

I guess one way to "twist" it is to instead of nuking the content on the sites, keep it but instead add extra content. If the PR was maintained before, why would it not stick now? :D

People worry too much about PR. What you should really be looking at is the backlinks. Keep in mind that the PR we see is just a snapshot. If the PR is going to drop off at the next update, it usually means the domain never had PR in the first place (the snapshot of it having PR is outdated).

Google calculates PR in real-time but only shows it to us in snapshots, which happen every few months. If a domain shows PR5 but all valuable links going into it are gone, the PR5 doesn't "drop off" at the next update, it's already gone. The only thing that changes at the next update is the snapshot of the PR to represent what's actually there.

If you analyze some of the new sites ranking in some profitable niches, you can see that there are many of them who have N/A PR blog networks supporting them. However, these N/A blogs are actually really strong if you analyze the backlinks going into them. The N/A PR is just a snapshot and does not represent the actual power of these domains. The PR usually goes up at the next update for most of them.
