Thats right, anyone who doubts it should try it out.

I have my own private network. For a popular skincare product CPA my aim was to rank my domain #1 with only 10 backlinks.
I see my compitition has over 1,000 backlinks. LOL!

    Purchased new domain
Added content, pretty header, no ads above the fold, no images above the fold, no bold, italic, underline. Only H2 tags.
Make sure you on page elements are there. Contact Us, About, Privacy, Terms and very very impotant DISCLOSURE <-------------- New
I pointed 10 backlinks from my private blog network to the domain. 8 exact match 2 url contextual.

3 days later, im #1 on Yahoo and #2 on Google for exact match skincare product including multiple long tail.
    Search volume is 400,0000

The point is, private blog networks still work and work very very well and if you follow the rules (no over opt.). I cant vouch for results like these from purchased backlinks but if you have your own network of private blogs, its the way to go. You can definitely outrank your competition with very few back links. Thats the point of the exercise.

    #2 google usa
    #1 google uk
    #1 google au

    #1 yahoo usa
    #1 yahoo uk
    #1 yahoo au

    4 sales so far today for $172.00 @ $43.00 p/s.

Yeah but be very careful. The thing is private networks are high quality links but you can't really diversify your anchors. You have ten links which means you have ten anchors? My sites have hundreds if not thousands of anchors and I have NEVER been hit. Knock on wood.

Sorry but diversity in Anchor is just one tiny part of the algo. Its not break it all situation. If everything else on your site is acceptable then the anchor diversity is overlooked. In other words if your site scores 80% and 20% is a violation you wont be penalized.

Ummm... no. Anchor diversity is one of the most important things right now and your crazy if you think otherwise. Yes, there are other factors but you don't think 10 links all exact match anchors linking to your site doesn't raise any suspicion to big G?

Hit me up next update and I can almost guarantee you will have a change in mind

And dude, half of the sites that got hit last update had great onpage and great content. That is ridiculous for you to say that as long as your onpage is good than your anchor texts are overlooked. That's got to be the funniest thing I have heard in a long time.

You can try and justify your strategies if it helps you sleep better at night

I'm not disagreeing with you as I do believe anchor diversity has a lot to do with the ranking algo.

    BUT

I don't think anybody would be suspicious of 10 lousy links.... heck. I don't even think you'd get penalized for having a thousand!

They are going after people who are ABUSING the system, meaning tens of thousands of exact match anchors... not some guy with 10 links.

I would put up 10 exact anchor links on every single one of my sites any day and not even worry about getting hit.

Gotta agree here. Even if there was to be some penalty, wouldn't be difficult to counter it at a later point.

I think 10 backlinks with the same anchor is perfectly fine.

We launch new websites for our clients all the time and the first thing they do is post about their new shiny website, usually with the same anchor text. It is a natural and expected occurrence and it hasn't affected potential for the sites to rank in Google.

You could be right, and we could be between updates. But researching my niche (financial), I am seeing lots of high ranking exceptions to the over-optimization rule as non-exceptions. I think just saying that over-optimized keywords caused penguin is too simple.

It is very simple of course but anchors are very easy to analyze compared to content, type of backlink etc.. I am not saying that it is just anchor text over optimization, but I think that the major percentage of sites being hit are due to this factor. That and anything else that you can leave a footprint with.

I still don't see how 10 links with all the same anchor looks natural. No site will naturally get 10 anchors with the exact keyword and nothing else. Obviously, Google is looking for sites that are building tons of links but I would still be careful IMO

Of course private blog networks still work; and they will continue to work for as long as links are effective. If you think about it, private blog networks are rather invincible as far as backlinks are concerned. They're not spammed out, they can have any anchor text you want, and are 100% permanent links. Hard to beat. Until social dominates search, private nets will always work.

How do you define private though? Is it just a network that you own and use, or is it sold in BST, or is it sold as a service?

Love to see posts like this.

How large is your network do you figure?

Do you linkbuild or just farm content and age content on your private network?

I don't think anyone ever said private blog networks don't work. It's the "public" private blog networks that get delisted that don't work.
