I have a client who has a site with 2 difference languages being hosted in a sub-directory folder (French and Spanish). Would it be a good idea to set the location of Google in WMT to the specific country (Mexico and France). But then I thought that users might use Google.com and just translate the page into Spanish. I dont see French as being a problem as users would use www.Google.fr, but I'm sure Spanish speaking people in the US would still use Google.com, but just translated into Spanish.

Any thoughts? I could just leave the country location in WMT to default, so that Google can serve what it thinks best.

    Duplicate content possible penalization???

It depends on the where the majority of your traffic is already coming from.

Just add the translator function on page saving everyone involved time.

Why would it be a duplicate content issue? These are in different languages
