So I discussed this with Extrawinner earlier..

I noticed google.com wikipedia, youtube, joomla etc all dropped from being PR 10 to PR9...

    and Facebook went to PR10...

I want to get a discussion going on why you guys think this is...? It seems very misleading...? Any ideas?

Google page rank 9, wow surprising, better if it were pr 10, I think FB should not be PR 10, and the others should be PR 10, just the old way.

Panda made too much chaos among webmasters so Google had to come up with something else, so here comes the PR Update. With lots of unexpected things, just to keep the masses involved with PR topic and calm them down. lol.

Facebook has been on PR10 for a while. Am suprised to see google.com and youtube.com fall! Google's getting some poor backlinks off late it seems ;)

Looks like Google stopped building backlinks :) Well this may be the cause that they put more value on content ?.. There's no content on Google.com :)

My other site was PR2 now PR0, quality 100% unique content in B2B niche.

Yep, nothing to it other than change. They have to keep things changing to keep all of us wondering...

The truth about it that content quality and popularity is how they would like to rank sites. The problem is, content quality is extremely subjective (some people like pictures and short blurbs while other like long descriptive paragraphs - hard to say which is better). And popularity, well, we all know how easy that is to influence :) ... well, until they change it :(

Some of my autoblogs went to as high as PR 3 others just PR 2 and 1. And yes, a useful update (other than panda) to further entice clients on SEO services. LOL

I really wonder if it is to throw us off or to emphasize the impact of the panda update or both?

Mind if I throw some mathematical nonsense into this thread? :)

Google PR is based on eigenvalue equation (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank). Solving the equation yields a vector (known as eigenvector) of values ranging between -infinity and +infinity - this is the vector of raw PRs of all the websites in the world.

Google probably rescales that vector to be between 0 and 10. In order the be able to rescale the vector properly they must use the minimum and the maximum values in the original eigenvector.

Now imagine that some websites suddenly became more popular than Google or Wikipedia, such a website will be rescaled to 10. And Google... well probably to 9.

What I am trying to say is this - the amount of backlinks to Google probably didn't change, however some websites now have more backlinks than Google which automatically makes the rescaled PR smaller than before.

    Facebook you say? Anything else?

I have a site which is 5 years old, 1 page of about 200 words and a contact form. 13 backlinks of which 10 are from 1 pr0 site of mine and are nofollow, the other 2 are from small town newspaper yellowpages and my site jumped from a PR0 to a PR2.

Well I thought they would manually award PR to big sites like Wikipedia etc...The fact that they rated their competitor higher than themselves, just shows that they are either trying to throw us of, or just pretend to take a backseat after the recent "monopoly" law suite against them...just to make things seems more fair...no?

It has to do with social bookmarks. ALL of my sites that have social bookmark backlinks have gone up by 1-2 page ranks.

All my sites using xrumer, scrapebox, link exchanges, etc. dropped by 1-2 page ranks.
