Whats up,

I am trying to go for my first white hat promotion of a site I had been building for a while. It is an adult type of social network, which is completely free to join and use. It has various CPA ads which are currently bringing in maybe $90-120 a month.

I was planning on using the Adbrite adult advertising network but have not made any commitments. I noticed one of my major competitors (xpeeps) uses Adbrite and found another competitor (s3x) advertising with the Adbrite network which listed their ad on xpeeps. I monitored the growth of s3x during it's week long campaign and noticed it had grown by about 500 members a day. I would like to acheive those or better results by using the Adbrite network and designing a great banner. Anyhow for a social networking site that doesn't cost anything to join, which would get me more bang for my buck...PPM or PPC?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The only way to know which would get you more bang for your buck is to test. Can you create a PPC and a CPM campaign at the same time to test? Otherwise, you can test one at a time to see which performs better for your site. It's really hard to answer these type questions, because results will vary from site to site.

You could also contact your competitors to ask about banner advertising on their sites. If they offer advertising, is it by click or impressions? Ask what they feel is the most effective type of advertising and why. I would say I'm in a niche that doesn't directly compete with them to try to get these details...

I doubt your competitor is using a single ad network. Split test both? 'Website Optimizer' will do the job.

Sounds good...thanks for the tips...will try testing both and see which works out better.
