I have found a great blog that is old, PR6 site, has a high DA and PA and is ranked highly in alexa.

Its a general blog so not targeted to my niche. Would you say its worth going for this?

Also, my site is about a year old. Its been up the back burner so i have done no link building at all in that time apart from a pintrest page and a facebook page. All I have done is keep on adding content and its gets a decent amount of search traffic.
All the backlinks I have to it are all pointing at internal pages but not the homepage. These are from people liking my content i guess.

So my other question is, for this particular PR6 site should i backlink my main keyword? or should I like to the sites name or URL? I know which is safer but I want to start climbing in the serps.

This will kick off my link building.

Uhm, well...you could put a few articles on it that don't pertain to your niche directly, but still work in a link to a money site in a stealthy way that makes sense. If I see a PR 6 (and it's a real PR 6), I go for it. Not that PR is everything, but if all other metrics are strong, it's a win.

Or find a niche it will work in too.

Do you intend to use the PR 6 site as part of a PBN?

Since a PR 6 link is a powerful link, you have to make the most of it by linking to your site with your keyword and then use other links for diversity. Your strongest backlinks should link to your site with your exact match keywords and the weaker ones (which should be higher in number) should link to your site with generic, url, brand, and phrase match anchor texts.

Well not a PBN as such. Its a proper site i'll be linking too, its 8 years old and is top 60,000 in alexa.
I'll just get a link on the homepage for a weeks till my blog post disappears from the homepage but it will be on the website permanently.

So its not a PR6 link as such.

So it's a guest post? If yes it sounds like a decent link but niche related is always better.

yeah, its a guest post as it says in the OP.

Finding a related blog in my niche is turning out to be very hard! I have found a few blogspots and tumblrs but no top level domains.
