I listed a very nice domain for sale with Sedo and got contacted by a "buyer."

    Here it is:

    Email 1:

So, naturally I sent him some info on it...

One key point was that it was appraised for over $3k but I was not even considering getting that amount and would be happy to negotiate for much less.

It was obvious he didn't take the time to consider negotiating and is a scammer:

I read his nice little blog, which for anyone else would have provided some feel good too. It provides a evaluation company OVER AND OVER AGAIN...that I know he is eluding too and wants me to use.

Whats the next step with messing with this guy? I sent him the appraisal (from my godaddy, which is bs in itself), its not like it has any info, and that paypal was the only way I would consider changing domains over.

If this is not a scam, well it looks like I am coming up. But, it is.

Also, I have his email - which has the domain in which his emails are coming from, it is also listed for sale with a parked page. Of course, privacy is set so I can't call his house :( but I would have liked too

I've not read that "blog" but sounds like the stuff most of the CPA people here do on craigslist. no ?;)
I'd not call it scam. He probaby has no intention to get your domain or money, he just wants you to fill some forms and receives a few $ if you do that.

True, you could be totally right. He just wants some info to get paid for a lead. Usually when it involves money though I take some notice. My intention is to BH him back and make a few $$ myself.

If he does, that he did a good job of hiding his info for the email domain but not a good job for the domain appraisal company - which wants to 49EU for the 1 domain appraisal (I am US, so whatever that means to me, conversion etc)

I have the name, addy, phone number of the person who owns researchappraisals.c0m and he made the other one private? I don't think, or hope he is that dumb.

It looks like he is pretty low key about it then, seems like it has gone under the radar for a while - except for the search for his email registered with the appraisal company, which is a scam email anyway.

He should probably change up that info and get off the map altogether, but that would be my take if I were him. Who knows, if he doesn't respond like you said than he probably won't to me anyway. He has others to prey off of. He won't get hooked into my generous offers :D

OP - I had the exact same email that you had.

    Hello,

We buy and sell domains and web prjects. What is your price for the domain?

If you have other domains for sale feel free to send your list.

Looking forward to do business with you.

    Regards,

    Gary Richards

    President

I told him what I wanted for the domain but never heard back

Use Mr. Escrow...If Mr Scammer doesn't have the money to put through Escrow then he needs to find someone else who is stupid enough to do so.

Moreover, I don't understand why people engage in such activities..Don't they know that it is fraud and can be punishable?

This is a really old scam that was popular around 2005-2006. Got a couple of those letters myself. The person doing it at the time was always dr. so and so and once in a while would change his name but never the credentials.

the scame is to get u to use their appraisal service, which costs u money, it brings him money, and they never buy your domain.
