    Fellas,
A family member of my girl was trolled and impersonated online and had her facebook pictures posted on several popular forums. Shit hit the fan as the troll managed to get himself banned and cause a stir.

Question, when pictures are posted by members of a forum, who do the pictures belong to? I'm thinking of messaging the admins to remove the pics even though this is a serious issue yet I don't know what to say. Theoretically a forum should have to remove any pics that don't belong to the forum even if posted by members, right?

    Cheers

A good forum won't mind removing them if you explain the situation. You might need a lawyer if it gets serious.

Thanks. Would sending a DMCA to their hosting company be of use if the forum admin is too thick to understand the issue and doesn't want to remove the pictures?

They should remove the pictures right away if you ask them. Keep in mind it may take a few days for the search engines to re-index all of the pages.

Also you should do a tineye search for the image, usually if one person has stolen a pic, there are several others who have stolen it also. They may be posted in several other places in which case it will be very difficult or even impossible to ever have all of the images deleted. Good luck and I hope everything turns out ok.

I'm trying to follow up with forum owners and I'm not getting responses as I believe some of the forums are pretty much dead/forgotten. I suppose that I could instead contact their hosting company and send a DMCA to them (hosting companies)? Or can I simply ask the webhosting company without having to send a formal DMCA, I'm saying because I've sent DMCAs before but the pictures/impersonation isn't of me? She is also involved in the military (so doesn't want her name public) and is from the UK (not US, where sites seem to be from).

And how can I know what website/forum is hosted by what hosting company? (WHOIS lookup doesn't seem to return webhosting company or maybe I'm not reading it right?)

I think that good forum will delete those pictures if you will explain the situation for them.

I think its not a big issue to forum admins to remove unauthorized picture..the best thing to do is to make your family member (subject in the picture)write to forum admin to ask for the removal of the picture..it is also the best to share the reason to them..but not necessary, the fact that the owner of the picture didn't allow it goes viral is enough reason...reputable forums would respect that fact..
