I've been doing good with my list of keywords for my local site. One of the keywords however was ranked in the 105th position or so. I posted a genuine article yesterday with that keyword. It wasn't a bullshit spinned article with intense keyword stuffing or anything. It was a good genuine article with that phrase in the <h1> tag, mentioned a few times in the article, and once in a picture's alt tag. I have a 17 year old domain name and I've never done anything black hat.

I wake up this morning and the keyword phrase is down 196 spots and not even listed anymore on Google. I've heard once or twice that sometimes a keyword has a massive drop before a massive increase. Is this true and do you think this is the case in this situation?

Yes it does happen. Could be google dance as well. Just give it a couple of days to get a clear idea. No need to panic. If you haven't done anything black hat or excessive link building you should be ok.

If there is massive drop across all keywords then you need to wait for sometime. If that is the only keyword has been brought down then make sure to add some backlinks related to that keyword and check whether there is some movement.

There is almost always a serious drop or a serious increase before you see your rank stabilizing at a number. wait at least 2-3 weeks to see where your REALLY stand in the SERPS.
