Penguin hit a lot of people really hard, and so many were assuming 2.0 would drop all of us off the map; but I'm seeing something else that's really interesting and might backfire on G's plans to screw us SEO's over: the G dance is giving really unpredictable, unreliable and poor quality results now. Bing seems to be as solid as G was before they introduced Panda and Penguin, and it's affecting black and white hat sites alike.

I know because I have white, grey and black hat links to my different sites, and the only variable that's consistent with all of the rankings is that they are changing by the minute; violent changes like position 19 to position 3, within hours.

I personally think this will backfire on G's plans for adwords domination(which is the real reason they are patching their algo so much in the first place), since people want predictable, reliable results. The commercials that Bing is pushing giving the idea that Bing has better search results than G is actually true IMHO, I'm actually starting to use Bing more everyday for this very reason, not because I want G to go f#^k themselves and Matt Cunt's beat up face to be shown on display at the front of the door at the next Comicon(too graphic? No more late night key and peele videos for me for the next few weeks...Dubstep: wait for the drop...), but because I want the search engine results I can go back to a week later and find the sites I originally saw.

Keep going against us G, now you have Black, Grey AND White hatters rooting for your demise.

You might have point there, my friend!
Let us all hope, you are indeed right. It's getting harder to explain to customers why SEO is so important...:(
I would love to see this backfiring on our good friend the big G! :D As I read here many times, Karma is a bitch!

HR links will never drop in value for google, bing nor yahoo! You make solid backlinks and they will pay in time and bring you traffic not only from search engines...

Eventually, genuine people will be like "fuck this, too hard..." and all that will be left of Google results will be the spam/IM sites anyway...

That's my point: they USED to be a good friend, now they are so hell bent on screwing us over that they are the first ones on my shit list.

Google as a company isn't going anywhere, I agree, but their dominance in search I believe will start to fall. Look at XBOX vs. PS2 compared with XBOX 360 and PS3.

yeah, but the results will keep changing by the minute, so Google's new slogan should be: 'we always give you something different, even if that's not what you wanted'.

Giants do fall but their market share is real dominance for now and the foreseeable future.

And before Google was created, did anyone expected that the former market leaders would get crunched by Google?
Do you remember the web back in 1998? Maybe that's what many people will be saying about 2013 in 10 years time, or maybe less.

Maybe not as random as StumbleUpon, but honestly their search results are no where near as consistent as they use to be.

That's exactly my point, Google is trying so hard to stay on top as THE market leader that they are, at least currently, shooting themselves in the foot. Thankfully we know Bing representatives are checking out this forum everyday and will exploit that :D

It'll easily take 5 years for a viable alternative to google as we know it,I'm not saying google will not be involved but voice recognition will soon be at mainstream levels, then the game changes for certain markets.Take local markets, you tell your phone I want a plumber, the results will likely not be google serps but PAID services, like adwords but not.

Of course most people are disappointed after an update you're basically looking at 10 places(really top 3) for a term, with millions of pages competing, you have to be realistic.Fact is bing isn't a competitor, now a tie in with facebook, then you're talking, they both dislike google, obviously, facebook more so.Given the traffic facebook gets to have a search engine(it's not really viable for them to start from scratch a tie in with bing would be alot easier) would certain liven the serps overall.

My sentiments exactly, I am no lover of Google but their imminent demise is just wishful thinking by some BHW members. Really is Bing going to replace Google anytime soon? I'm not saying they are not going to fall but it's a few years down the road so get use to the menagerie of releases from Googliath.

Google is arrogant, but don't be ignorant thinking the world's most popular search engine is going to fail because their aggression is negatively affecting your website's ranking.

I never said it was imminent! Is a 10 years span imminent to you?
This being said, I think that the OP has a point, and if Google wants to be here for the long run, has to start behaving properly :D and treat his customers in a respectful way. Otherwise they will eventually start looking elsewhere. Google is very good and the products it launches are very consistent and user friendly, make your life easier, etc. But if they keep messing with the serps, if google stops providing such good results as it once did, in a few years who knows how SE market will stand. Isn't customer care the single most important thing in any business? How big you have to be to start not caring about your customers?

why would an end user care if the results change every day? you assume that regular people think like IM's do. You think grandpa cares what was ranking #1 for "Can't get a hard on" yesterday? He only cares if he can find pertinent info when he types his query into the search field. now, you could argue that the quality that google is currently returning is shit, and you'd be correct. but as far as the serps bouncing around, the only people who care about that are people trying to make money off them.
