I'd like to know if anyone has fully recovered from the penalty yet.

I've seen a very slow climb back up, some sites have nearly recovered, some are taking more time. Building more links definitely helps.

Maybe there is a half-life on the penalty?

I would be interested to know about your experiences.

Please check and don't reply if you got an algo penalty form penguin. This is a completely different penalty which stems from the huge blog networks taken down by Google months ago.

Out of the 82 sites in my portfolio affected by this penalty, none recovered so far. Some were hit harder, some a little less, but no matter if continuous linkbuilding or "leave it alone" strategy, none recovered to a level you could call recovery. I heard some rumors that the penalty may last 300-600 days, but not from an official source...so just rumors.

We used ALN on about 6-10 websites and they were penalised, including our own local SEO company website. Most of our sites have recovered, but they were all branded website for local businesses, not affiliate sites.

Some still haven't fully recovered but we're pretty damn close. I think our SEO company website is having the hardest time as we were number 1 for SEO (location) and web (design location).

We added more keywords into linkbuilding and started to diversify. We also started using newer and smaller blog networks.

Even after deleting the links on some sites (was a test), nothing has recovered. The only joy to this is to see the shit that Google is now serving their users in place of what once was occupied by quality websites. Google is surely abusing the end users these days.

I'm pretty sure that my site was hit due to BMR and it has not recovered yet after 4 months. I have no idea about what to do as this site was my primary income source (big mistake!)

I dont even see any recoveries, i had noticed those using open site explorer or seomoz got hit really bad. hardly any recoveries from my side, looks like all sort of tricks are not going to work.! and truly all the G members are getting the top slots that used to be for good quality sites.

First you must figure out what kind of penalty you suffered so you can then figure out how to recover from it. Do you have a manual or algo penalty? Manuals will show up in your webmaster tools, algorithms wont but you can figure it out based on the date you were affected.

Regardless though you will need to remove links, or attempt to remove them if it is a manual penalty. We've recovered all of our websites BUT one in our network of money making sites since these penalties were rolled out. We even tested different techniques such as waiting for the penalites to be removed. Which they wont be and thats the one site in our network that hasn't recovered yet.

The others have had extensive link cleanup and we used a lot of tools and services to help us do that. Linkdetox.com is a good site to help identify links that should be removed and cleaned up. Then after sorting our lists and figure out which links should be removed we then turn to linkdelete.com for link cleanup.

They take care of everything and give you a solid report to provide to google for reconsideratoin request. We then take the links that couldn't be removed and add those to a disavow list. After submitting the disavow we then submit a reconsideration request with the linkdelete reports. This often takes 4 or 5 submissions to google before the manual penalties are removed.

If you have an algorithm penalty then I recommend removing overoptimised links with the anchor text and trying to balance your backlink profile with unoptimized anchor text links. This takes longer like 5 months or something to remove algo penalties and are much harder.

Hey guys, we have found you need to get all the bad spun content links disavowed or removed. Often times this is slow or difficult. The other sure fire way to lift the penalty is to clone you site and move it to a clean new domain. Use a .net or a hyphen domain if you want to maintain your branding. It hurts to let the old domain go, but if you cant get the links disavowed or removed that domain is dead as far as Google sees it.

Thanks for the quick summary of how to use linkdetox and linkdelete. I'm just in the process of signing up for linkdetox. Need to undo some bad backlinks provided by our 'SEO guy'. Hopefully webmaster tools disavow will do the trick.

no effects not even after deleting those links that were suspected to be hit, no recovery has been made.

Hello are the hits everyone is taking big hits down 50 pages or a just few pages. I went from page 1&2 to pages 5&6 , across the board. It might as well be 50 pages as it killed the earnings. I have 2000 links to try and clean up , the domain is too good to abandon, bummer.
