Yes... or people would be just buying 10+ year old domains and taking over all niches.

If they really haven't done any SEO work and all the domain has going for it is its age then yeah that should be no problem...

but man they have no backlinks whatsoever to the page that is ranked, although they do have a pr 4 and 14k backlinks to the total site. I cant seem to out rank it, same with other people with different keywords. they always seem to be number 1

If that is true about the site not having any backlinks or on site SEo, then YES!!! You can definitely outrank him.. Unless of course the site is wikipedia, where in that case you might want to settle for #2 in the short term.

You should start a thread about this and let us no how it is going for you :)

Man this is the second thread today about the same thing, if you wasted your day in link building you may be a step closer . Build quality links and you can outrank anything

What are you using to check the backlinks of the domain? Have you used any services similar to ahrefs.com? Sounds weird a domain hasn't a single backlinks.... unless you're trying to outrank them for a ridiculously low position. As others have said, you should be able to beat it though, if it in fact does have 0 backlinks.

This means the trust meter is high on that website and the viral one is verry low.
I guess you know what to do from here :)
