I am working with someone right now. if you google his name or the name of his company, the second link is yelp, and in the search results, you can see 1 star.
I am wondering if it would be possible to build a bunch of garbage backlinks to this yelp url to get rid of it?
If not, then I suppose the only other way is to make a bunch of blogs and try to build good backlinks to those, right?

update: Thanks guys for the helpful responses. Actually, I did bring up the possibility of buying reviews, but he got offended and said he doesn't do fake reviews. He is an ethical person and that 1 star was left by a competitor.
so how much should I charge to push the yelp review to page 3? should I charge monthly, or just a one-time fee?

it won't help, don't even try this method. Try finding positive yelp reviews, I think they cost around $50

I wouldn't bother. Yelp has a massive domain authority, so getting a page penalized may be a lot harder than you would want it to be, and may even boost it's ranking. It would be better to try to rank more pages ABOVE the Yelp listing and push it downwards. Besides, if you control pages on the first page of Google you can write whatever praise on there you want about the guy and his company. You can use websites such EMD's (easy to rank for names and company names), Web 2.0s, and Press releases or just flood the Yelp page with more positive reviews.
