I found some terrible sites linking to my site and was wondering if there's any way to block the link value or link coming from the site? They're just pages with tons of adult/spam links, and I think this is the reason why my site's been having issues ranking in Google. I doubt contacting the webmaster would work, since he probably could give 2 cents about these pages, so any ideas as to what I could do?

Afaik there's nothing you can do about the links except contacting the webmaster, which is exactly why I believe Google doesn't devalue sites for bad incoming links. It simply wouldn't make sense because it would open up an easy way to hurt competitors.

I think there must be some type of penalty involved because over the course of 2 months, I've acquired 25+ quality, relevant links (some of which are .edus) and still have yet to even dent any of the rankings for my targeted keywords in Google, but they've blown up in Yahoo...I think I heard of some way to block the incoming link so it's not shown to Google

That doesn't necessarily show there's a penalty though but simply that it takes more than 25 links to rank for your keywords.

I know what it takes to rank, been doing link building for 4 years now :) The site's actually a client of mine, and before I came on, it had 2000 backlinks (mostly relevant, decent quality backlinks), 5 year old domain, and the keywords are in the url, and its on-page factors (title tag etc..) are pretty much in top notch shape. In the past, I've began working on a client, and after just 4-5 good links, I would notice at least SOME change in the rankings (maybe a jump from page 5 to page 3, etc..). Where is here, for the last 2 months, the keywords still remain unranked and not even in the top 10 pages...especially since a decent amount of the links I've gotten are contextual, higher pr pages (pr 5+), and even a few .edus, and still NO change at all, but yet Yahoo and MSN is blowing up...so just a little confused as to what to do!

Im not really sure that there is anyway to 'block' the link value so to speak. If there is I would love to hear about it..

I think your best option is to try and build more and more quality links. Most people dont believe that negative linking has any effect but for the few that do most would agree google takes the number of negative links as an overall percentage of your total links.

Otherwise you could try and whack the sites, but that could be a lot of hard work

Sounds like your client got Google bowled.

To the non-believers out there, it does work. I've seen it work, had it done to me before. The only recourse you can take is contact the webmaster and ask them to remove the links. Once most if not all of those links are gone, your rankings should return.

It would be nice if you could remove the links you don't want in GWT.
