Do polls have any SEO value? I mean does Google see it like something a community friendly site would do?

NOt that I've noticed - Traffic wise they can be pretty good though.
A "rage bait " poll often gets great traffic stats. People stay on the page - fill in the poll, add a rant etc.

One I saw recently was "I think Bieber Is Better Than Elvis. What About You?"
It was on a 50's Classic Car site - so you can imagine the response that got. About 5000 responders inside a couple of hours on a site that doesn't seem to get more than 15k traffic a day

Then - in a round about way - Google does take improved visitor retention into account, so this might have a small positive efect in SERPs as well.

Not sure about that but I don't think so.

Polls have no SEO value but they do have social value for a community.
