Well I certainly hope I never get banned but I've seen a lot of bans lately (of course this is no reflection on mods just because people are increasingly breaking the rules).

Still, when I see a member's username and the word "banned" underneath I can't help but to be curious as to what happened and why he or she was banned.

I think it would be useful to have "Latest Banned" thread run by mods who would give a brief summary (I mean really brief) of the mis-deeds of the miscreant so that others may benefit and avoid the very same behavior.

Not only would such a thread be helpful but it would be quite popular and full of fun-loving comments from those who wish to reflect upon the unfortunates.

What do you think of this idea?

Dude you are here to make some money.

Ok it might be a little fun for me and others but it would actually help new people who don't take the time to read the rules.

Just think how many bans could be avoided if new people could read about what actually got someone banned. Doesn't that make sense?

I for one am in favor of this. I haven't read all the rules, and cannot put them all in context, so seeing the no-no's would help. It might also help members avoid doing business with these persons in other forums.

If someone is getting banned, it's because they didn't read the rules to begin with. I'm sure that reading the reason people were banned wouldn't avoid that, because they've shown they aren't going to read anything, anyways.

I would like to read it, but for no other reason than being nosy. They don't owe us an explanation for why anyone was banned.

I feel like it would be a good way to reinforce the forum rules and discourage rule breaking, as well as to explain why and for how long some more established members here might have been banned. I think a huge problem would be the extra work load for the mods, though...

I don't really want this for a 'fun factor'.. but i've seen a few people from my skype banned on here, or on another forum.. and when asking why they were banned.. i'm always curious as to if they're bullshitting me or not.

like: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...-pinterest-users-please-read-beta-tool-4.html

IzSpK had a beta test going on for his pinterest bot.. but now he's banned. was it because of his bot? was something going on there? I don't really know and it makes me weary of him in the future. I wasn't involved in that beta test.. so that one isn't as big of a deal to me.. but i'm sure it is to others.

I have been interested in software someone else had for sale and saw they were banned on here.. and ended up not getting it because their reason for being banned didn't seem right, and I assumed they might be lying.

If there was just a way to include a small ban reason on their profile or something that'd help out a lot. I'm not really interested in a long ban thread where all the members are giving their opinions like the shitlist threads.

It was not and is not my intent to say that mods owe us any explanation of why someone has been banned. I think we have great people moderating this site.

I repeat, this thread is not intended to question moderator actions (although there may be some who attempt to do so).

I'm not saying you are. I will say though that if they were to publicly announce and/or open up to public forum, I could see nasty legalities arise as a result. Some things are better not being questioned, and I'm confident this is one of them. I see this more as a case of "Leave well enough alone". Just my humble opinion.

Although I don't want to agree because I want the thread, what you say may have real merit.

Staff members don't disclose ban reasons unless you have a valid concern and request it directly. Threads asking why someone was banned are generally deleted on sight. There are a multitude of reasons why things are done this way, but the example quoted from the original post sums it up nicely. Bans are sometimes necessary to enforce the rules and/or keep the forum clean for everyone, but in no way are meant to make a spectacle of the recipient or string anyone up for everyone with nothing better to do to throw stones and make jokes. We take revoking anyone's forum privileges seriously and so should you. :)
