    For Example:

Would you rather have a niche website that talks about a specific Type of baseball bats or an authority site that covers all types of baseball bats.

Niche sites are often times cheaper, you can possibly get an EMD that helps with rankings. However, content is often thin and the opportunity to expand is much more limited.

Authority sites are better for the long run, can rank keywords faster if properly silod and can make you more money in the long run. However, authority sites often times cost more and if anything were to happen to it you would lose everything.

I'm on the fence about what my next website should be. What do you guys suggest?

You explained pros and cons of creating each of them already.
I understand this feeling but i am sure somewhere in your mind you already have decided which way to go, you just need a few nods from here and there.

To answer your question. I will think of minimizing the chances of penalty first,so i will never try to create a big site around fake niches. They are likely to hit, reported, penuinized, pandalised. Single niche websites are worth a thought though ( if it was not for the recent google crackdown on them)

Assuming my wallet is full and my niches are white, i will obviously go the authority site route with proper structure and good content.
The part where you have to have confidence is you is link building. I will personally create a 100 site PBN exclusively for the project and try getting outreach posts on authority blogs. You will only have that fear of getting hit as long as you building backlinks yourself.

Besides everything you mentioned, the good thing about an authority website is that after it passes a certain threshold it starts getting mentions, shares naturally and you will realize that you can now be gentle with link building and see your site grow by itself.

Ofcourse, you will still need to be working on quality content for the site.

    EDIT: I love your Username

Why would you create multiple niche site within the same niche? That is just a waste of momey/time.

But treat it like an authority site - ie don't make the content thin just because you are fox using on one small niche. Build it as if it were going to be an authority site.

Thanks a ton for the reply man! Right now I'm leaning towards the niche website just for the simple (and potentially stupid) fact of nabbing an exact match domain. Although google does not use EMD heavily like it did back in the day, yahoo and bing do still. If i was pumping out good quality articles on a daily basis that relate to the single niche site, would that make google happy at the end of the day as I know they've been targeting niche sites that have thin content.

Personally, I would ditch the exact match domain, which do you think people will go for more often:
    Baseballbatsaregreat.com
    -or-
    Shortstopauthority.com
Even if you take the 2nd one and build it first about baseball bats, if it does good you can build it up into a larger broader niche authority site. You would already have the baseball bat silo built, then you could build out glove silo, then helmet silo, then line paint silo, then make a massive collection post.
It would also give you potential larger avenues to monetize it in the long run.
Also, by building it up as an authority site, you could do things like have a sports blog section and do latest scores, game recaps, etc... which would build you up in that entire broad niche.

    Lots more potential.
And don't put all your eggs in one basket, build an authority site about the broad niche, but also a few micro-niche sites about closely related things, like softball bats, softball gloves, etc... then if something goes awry you have a backup or 4.
