Howdy everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone had experience with using political events for marketing purposes.

In today's world with Brexit / Donald Trump impeachment / re-election there is a lot of polarity between left and right and each side is attacking each other all the time. I think there is potential in using people's political anger to make an impulsive action while they're overwhelmed with emotions.

What are your thoughts?

Social media, social media oh and social media.

I didnt specify what group of people would be targeted, how would they be targeted and what offer they would see. I'm just speaking to see what other people's opinion. Many people target specific holidays to get rush of impulse buying and while politics are completely different I think still there is a lot of potential.

Do people still remember poll sites with email / zip submit offers from back in the day? I remember around 2008 (when Obama was elected) many people were running polls

Yesterday when searching for new tshirt stores I accidentally came across POD store that targeted particular political sub niche I was originally interested in when I posted this topic. I browsed thru this new store (domain registered 12/22) and they had a few average POD designs, nothing that would pique my interest if I were a customer. As I was browsing thru various products there was a popup notifying of recent purchases (Shopify app for social proof) and it said that there were several purchases in last 9 minutes. I've monitored the site for the next hour and according to the popup they had 13 sales and this morning when I woke up it said 60 sales over last 14 hours. 60 sales overnight on Saturday to Sunday I think it's really good and it would be safe to say that this store gets at least 100 sales per day. I will continue monitoring this store but my hunch was right from the start :)

There's a thread somewhere here with a guide on doing this with groups. Supporters like trump and Bernie have a cult following, so it's pretty easy to rile them up and get traffic/sales.

BTW, those social proof plugins usually have an option to fake number of sales, so I'd take that with a grain of salt. Just go in and test. That's the only way you'll really know. If you're looking for validation, then yes, it does work, but pretty old, so probably not as well as during elections a few years ago.

Make money out of it? that's what I'd do...

How do you search for new stores?

I've been out for a few days but still monitored monitored this store on my phone by refreshing pages. One day something was wrong with the store and it lost all the items but still had design. Most of the days since my last post the store according to social proof plugin had similar number of sales as I've originally stated. Some days I would visit and the social proof popup would not show up, not sure why. The store also started having 50% off sale and selling items slightly above their cost. On Saturday I refreshed and social proof popup said there were over 1000 sales in last 2 hours and as I refreshed the number increased and said this was over last 3 hours. Over next few hours the reported number dropped and said something like 785 purchases in last 3 hours. **added later - now it just showed me 15 purchases in last 2 hours

@jadsn - I am as sceptical as you are with social proof but I just can't explain it. If they're manipulating their social proof purchases why are the reported sales all over the place. I was planning on using IG & FB groups (as you've mentioned) and have my VA do organic marketing there and not use FB ads.

Election stuff with Bernie / Trump are just tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of other political events that are smaller in nature yet have same cult following but on smaller scale and with less competition. In my view Pete Buttigieg as first gay veteran / Tulsi Gabbard as first female veteran / Andrew Yang as first Asian American are better choices. They're fresher and have smaller but more dedicated fans that are not jaded like Bernie / Trump followers who have been doing that since 2015.

@PHP-Rockstars - I've had this idea for a few months and had a certain physical product in mind. I'm in the process of obtaining large quantity before CNY to do self fulfillment to execute my ida. For political POD stuff I need to get some designs done and test out different political events where I think there

Don't waste your time with refreshing the site and checking stats on the notification app. The numbers are fake. The sole purpose of these apps is to boost the conversion rate and not actually showing the real data.

Politics is an amazing niche but way harder to make it work with paid advertising compared to last elections. In the last election, I made $10k on FB alone with one t-shirt in a few days after Hillary's campaign announcement. The t-shirt had a controversial saying and I was targeting Trumps' supporters. Good fun days! :D

Keep in mind, people who are against something will always be more passionate.
