    I have a site that pretty much became the authority site in my small niche. Whatever I post will be on the first place in G.. I really don't know what happened.. suddenly, all my new posts did not even rank at all!!!
    I checked if the posts are indexed. They are indexed indeed.. and my previous posts still maintain the same places. I do not see any drop in traffic for my previous posts! But, Whatever new things I post, then do not even rank at all!! I couldn't understand this.
    could this be because of the new G update?? If so, how do i recover from this?

    My SEO strategy: Just On Page SEO + lot of social signals

    Harder competition KWs may require more work than just putting it on an authority domain. What is the top ten like?

    I understand the KWs have competition. But the problem now is, my new posts are nowhere to be found in 10 pages of G !!!
    This sounds like a negative imposition.. but i could not think of anything that could be negative. Just wondering what the problem is ?!?

    Do more posts. And wait some time then see if they come.

    Doing more posts and waiting is not a problem.. I am more interested in understanding what brings this sudden change and what i could do to go back being normal.. or at least, how i could minimize the effect of this imposition..

    Hi there OP. After posting your new content, have you tried submitting it to Google Search Console. If you have already, don't worry. The SERPs right now is in a constant swirl because of the recent Panda refresh.

    Over-optimization perhaps? And maybe the competition is stronger in those keywords so you need some real backlinks to rank on page 1? Although you should have ranked in top 100 at least without backlinks especially if your site is an authority one like you say. So I would bet over-optimization, although to be honest it could also be because of the latest update - I have tracked many keywords and they have been acting weird lately while others haven't.

    Nope.. that helped me to rank for all the posts until now. So I really couldn't think of it. Also, Its not like i completely don't have any other backlinks.. but thanks for your thought.. may be i should start some social bookmarking..

    Yes, as you said, even if the competition is strong, I should've been in the last!! but i am nowhere :(
    i bet its the update.. But why should it affect me as I have not done any negative SEO?? that is what i don't understand.. also, do you have anything in mind or any method that could bring me back in the game?

    Understanding competition, search volume and Google's Algo (What we know of it) would give a few ideas of what is going on.

    Social Signals and on Page is not enough to crack top ten pages on some KWs. Bookmarks will not do it either. Contextual tier one links should give you something.

    Google does have an update rolling out. So a lot of things are weird and I have have a bit of KW movement.

    Also, off the cuff, I have a domain with legit PR, high TF, and all the other metrics. KW competition on this domain is low. Some KWs have no competition, as in the top ten are not optimized what so ever.

    Guess what? I put an article up and after a week it will pop up at 300. Another week settle around 100. I point a web 20 to it and it moves a bit. I keep monitoring for several weeks and eventually I get to the top. Some of these KWs are insanely easy. But now they just do not 'pop' into place without some links.

    If you have a super strong, regularly updated domain maybe some KWs with zero competition will pop into place eventually. But in all of my testing with long tail KWs and super easy KWs, it still takes some signals for Google to think the content is worthy for ranking.

    I could be off, but I am willing to bet either the competition is a tad steeper than you think or you as stated above you optimized too much assuming your site is that strong.

    A pretty easy test for an established site is this:

    1. Get an URL Shortener.
    2. Share it on Social Media.
    3. Build a handful of links to it.
    4. Wait a week and see if it does anything to your page.

    If the link does something, then you need to build more links to the page. If not, go back to optimization.

    You are almost correct, I'm seeing the same changes with my keywords too.

    Try linking the new posts with old one on some specific keyword ;)

    It doesn't affect only you, it is affecting a considerable number of search queries. And it's not because of what you have done, it's because Google tends to fuck up every time it releases a new update. I can't tell you anything specific, but once again I would look very closely at over-optimization. When my keywords are not even in top 100, 9 times out of 10 that is my problem (and most of other people's problems). Fix your over-optimization issues first (if you have any) BEFORE you start doing any backlinking, that way you can know if that was the problem or not.

    Thanks guys.. actually i did few things and now i'm on 2nd place..

    Here's what happened:
    * I have a EMD
    * Regularly updated site
    * Rank 1 for long tail keywords (with quotes, without quotes, slight variation of the keyword)
    * Any post on the site = Default position is Rank 1
    * SEO strategy = On page SEO + Lot of social signals
    * ~Approx monthly site traffic at the time of G update is 60k+

    BullSh update happens,
    * Still Rank 1 for all the old posts i made
    * Whenever a new post is made, it is indexed but not listed in the SERP :(

    Here's what I did:
    * Made a new post
    * Linked it to one of my old posts which is at Rank 1 (trackback)
    * Created Blogger & Wordpress blogs and linked back to the new post
    * Gave some Social Signals to the new post (twitter+fb+gplus+tumblr)
    * Attached a video to the post and uploaded the same to youtube & dailymotion with backlinks to the post
    * Created few other web 2.0 profiles linking back to the new post
    * Gave social signals to the newly created blogs and profile pages
    * waited for 4 days and finally hit the spot :)

    This is not my idea but a method that really worked for me. While I am not sure if this is really what saved me, I am happy that I worked on a different method than usual and I am satisfactory at the end of the day.. Also, make sure you have original content to the posts(one of the reasons to be affected by G update).
