my keyword is "induction lighting" when I started I was on 2nd page for this kw and within a month of link building I appeared on page 1. kept on link building but today I have gone back to page 2 about the middle of the page!!!

what is the problem?

Bookmark the shit out of your site/blog. There some excellent services here offered at BHW for very reasonable prices. That should help make your position at the top a little firmer.

I just checked and I have about 400+ links coming from totallylookslike.com
It is registering the backlinks from there but I cant find the anchor or the web address in the entries. we have NOT made these links and I am positive of it. google bomb maybe?

its very frustrating...

What kind of link building have u done recently?

profile, commenting, directory and UAW

So u didnt do anything bad so dont sweat it too much, google does those kinds of shifts from time to time (actually all the time) so i wud check my google webmaster account and if you dont see anything funky there just sit tight and wait for the ranking to come back....

If u GW says smth that should give u a clue of what is wrong and how to fix it....

ok guys thanks for your help....
I have analytics set up but not GW . honestly I havnet really worked with GW. can i log in from my analytics and check it out?

If u have analytics you have a gmail account so that is all you need to set GW up but it will take a couple of days before Google shows u any info so the faster you do it, the faster you can see if G found smth that doesn't like on your site...

that is just normal.if you had just disappeared out of the serp, you could have worried but this is going to be all right for sure.

There is no problem, just normal behavior that has nothing to do with your link building. Google very often ranks a new site higher than it normally would, especially for low to moderate competition keywords while it decides where it needs to rank. After a short period of time the site ends up where Google decides it belongs. This is usually much lower than where it entered the rankings. This will happen regardless if you build any links or not.

Then what happens is you think you really deserved that nice spot and start building links thinking that if you started on the 2nd page some links should easily get you up to the first page. In the meantime Google ranks your site where it deserves and you automatically start blaming the link building. Your new ranking is not a penalty or any kind of sandbox for your link building it is Google deciding where your site really belongs.

Any rankings you see the first 2 or 3 months is smoke and not something you can count on. It may stick or it may not. The best thing you can do is just keep building your links like you know you should do and ignore the dancing around for the first few months. Personally I do not even check the rankings of my new sites the first three months anymore. I know what I will see is not anything I can count on so why bother. I just follow the plan I set up when I built the site and then once it is established I see what I have and then make any needed adjustments at that time. The results are just as good and no unneeded stress or "OMG I have been sandboxed" threads.

Seriously while it is possible to build enough links to get yourself a manual review and get a site in trouble that number is so much higher than anyone spending time in the white hat section is going to build.

What niches do you operate in so you don't look at rankings for 3 months? For the less competitive ones you can rank and stay ranked in a month to two months...

The niche does not really matter. I am not saying that I do not try and get them ranked, what I am saying is that I do not obsess over the rankings in for the first few months. I have a fairly set procedure that I follow for new sites that seems to work fairly well for me. Since I my link building plan is already set for the first three months my daily/weekly rankings does not really matter during that period and lets face it they are going to bounce around a bit anyway so how good is the information you are seeing anyway. Most all of the "OMG What Happened????" Threads are about newer sites. What is the most common advice? Keep on building your links and your site will come back to the top is what you see most often. I just plan it that way from the start to save myself the stress and aggravation of watching my sites bounce around for the first few months.

Now with the easier niches I will obviously have better rankings after my initial link building is done so there will be a lot less work to do at that point. Around that three month period I re-evaluate the site and what it needs and go from there. At that point there is a lot less bouncing around unless you get stupid so it is a lot easier to take a snapshot of your rankings and see what you need to improve your site.
