If i found 2 good domain names but both taken (com, org, net, co, biz..u name it..gone).

EG: 'soft' and 'tafetta' both taken but good so if go for soft-tafetta.com or tafetta-soft.com (or whatever extensions)....will searching for either 'tafetta' / 'soft' in the SE will it show my domain out ?

    TQ.

I guess, your site will be shown in the SEs even if you don't use those criteria lately, but if you optimize the site well. However, you can use that strategy. Either way, you have to work on the quality of your site and optimize it well (Not over optimization though).

For domaining only stick to .com and no hyphens.

3 words are fine as long as they make complete sense.

Domaining and IM are very different. What may rank in Google SERP may not have any value to an offline client or vice versa.

I'm with others here-keep it to two words, three if they're short, and no hyphens. Hyphens make it look like you couldn't get the domain you wanted, so you tossed a hyphen in there.
