If you can't afford an ahrefs subscription you might wanna go for a monitorbacklinks.com trial or look for another competitor that offers a trial version.
Unfortunately webmeup is not free anymore.

As for link juice being passed it's hard to tell. I'm having difficulties ranking expired domains and I think that google does recognize that there's a new owner unless you restore the previous content. It is just an assumption though.

Still, if I'd want to 301 a domain to pass link juice from, I'd just buy a fresh one and spam it.

Check the anchor text with ahrefs, majesticseo or opensiteexplorer. Make sure it's nothing related to pharma, casino, porn or some foreign language that you don't understand. Then head over to google.com enter this "site:yourwebsite.com" and whether it is still indexed. Then check the backlink at ahrefs, majesticseo or opensitexplorer. Again make sure non from any of the keywords above ^. But usually the domains you found are useless because they are usually picked up especially with stats like those.

    You need to dig deeper.
Use other link checkers as others suggested.
I would check webarchive as well. Look for redirects, adult content and previous use as PBN.

Also make sure to check for fake pr... you'll find that most of the sites offering backlinks on fiverr are fake lol... In fact I would ignore pr for the most part as its not reliable... There are some online checkers which can help, also check in waybackmachine to see how the site looked... and if it redirected in the past then for sure its fake!
