Open FTP Client, login to your FTP, right click on file, click properties, type 777 into CHMOD and then click apply.

Or if the hosting server has something like suPHP installed it won't let you chmod to 777.

To make files writable you need to chmod to 666, for folders try 755.

Ok try this - create a htaccess.txt file on your computer and copy and paste what WP is giving you into that file.

Upload to the WP directory and rename it to .htaccess

    Does that work?

Your FTP client will have to be set up to view hidden files - the '.' before the name makes it hidden.

If you want me to take a look drop me a PM - be warned, I will need logons etc and I am a complete stranger :D
