Ok... The reason I use wordpress is because I am not super savvy with making websites. Now I upgraded a site that is pretty old and now everything is down. The instructions it gives is like foreign language to me. I goo gle d everything and am still having some serious problems. I really doubt I am the only one that has gone through this and I know this community has tons of very savvy people. Please someone help me get my site back online. Here is what wordpress told me to do.

If you don't have SSH access, ask support to help you:
    - delete all the files listed in /home/******/public_html/******/fantastico_fileslist.txt
    - delete /home/*******/public_html/******/fantastico_fileslist.txt
    - Untar /home/********/fantastico_backups/.backup.1272117720.tgz
    - Empty the database *******_wrdp1
    - Import the file /home/*******/fantastico_backups//backup.sql into the database *******_wrdp1
    - Move /home/******/fantastico_backups/ to /home/*******/public_html/********

I removed some info that is personal, but I hope that is enough for you to get the jist of it. I got as far as step 2, but I don't know how to untar and I cant find the ********_wrdp1. I just use classic FTP and don't know a whole lot about stuff on the back end.

I am on Yahoo messenger right now and I would greatly appreciate some help. Thanks in advance!

    Bump.

I know I am being a little impatient but I have no idea what to do. And until I figure it out my site is worthless. Thanks again.

When you use FTP to access your site, do you see these 2 files?

    .backup.1272117720.tgz
    backup.sql

TGZ is a compression format and untar is just a command like unzip and unrar.

You can't see the *******_wrdp1 from within FTP.
    You access it through PHPMyAdmin.

What these instructions tell you is to erase every trace of your original install, rebuild the Wordpress from scratch and import your former data into it.

If your new to this I would test the rebuilding first on a fresh subdomain.
Just add a subdomain to your site and build the new WP on that. If that works and you see your content you know how to safely do the same on your site.
