So the name of my blog is pretty niche and for sake of this example lets say the subject of my blog is based on a girl named "Moskidivo"

lets also say the name of my website happens to be www.moskidivo.com

why is it that my website is not the #1 result on google for "moskidivo" searches? i have the actual url for the name of the search subject and the site is live and active yet instead i see things from facebook, etc. as the #1 result.

the other day i installed the "All in one SEO" plugin on wordpress now i cant be certain that this is what helped but for one day and one day only www.moskidivo.com was the number 1 search result on google

problem was is that everytime i visited www.moskidivo.com it would redirect people to moskidivo.com without the "www"

i didnt know what was causing this so i contacted my host and asked them why my site was redirecting they told me it was probably due to some script. they then made it so that the site forced itself to go to www.moskidivo.com and not redirect to moskidivo.com.

in retrospect im thinking maybe it was the SEO plugin that was causing it to redirect without the "www" ? because now when i check search results for moskidivo on google i am no longer the #1 result!

    whats going on?

You should have used Google WMT to list your site as http://www.yourdomain.com instead of yourdomain.com without affecting the search results.

There's also an option to redirect non-www to www and vice versa via .htaccess.

Here's the code to redirect all link backlinks and link juice from non-www to www:

    Code:
    RewriteEngine On

    rewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC]

    rewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
Note : Please use the above code only after researching about .htaccess redirects and if needed.

The reason why you see Facebook and such pages behind your domain on search results is because maybe your site doesn't have enough Domain Authority. Try building some High PR backlinks and get buzz around your domain via social promotion and bookmarking new articles.

He's talking about Google Webmaster Tools. In there you can choose your preferred domain. Set it to the www version (you may need to prove ownership of your site again, but it's really straightforward). The reason this matters is because otherwise the www version and the non-www version are seen as separate entities, which can cause some headaches.

    okay thanks for clarifying

what does that have to do with my situation exactly? that is where im confused

    my situation is this:

i own the domain www."moskidivo".com i am using it as a WP blog.

my site originally was the 5th or 6th result on google.

i installed a SEO WP plugin for the domain. did absolutely nothing else.

yesterday my website was the #1 search result for "moskidivo" at the same time i noticed that my site was redirecting from "www.moskidivo.com" to moskidivo.com im not sure if this was due to the plugin or what

i contacted my host and they said a script was causing this redirect and they then put some kind of "forced" fix where the website would force itself not to redirect.

today i went to check my search results and now my site is back down to the 5th or 6th listing.

with all that said how does choosing my preferred domain in google tools have anything to do with what im facing?
thanks for the help im a bit confused right now

    Home Page:
You have installed All in One SEO and probably have canonical urls set up. This is fine. You really don't have to use GWT for anything on your site if you don't want to.

With canonical urls if one goes to www.xxx.....com they are redirected to http://xxx....com. This is good for you and has no bearing to your main question. Which I guess is that you bought an EMD and you want it to rank today.

By the way, don't ask your host to do seo stuff on your site. You will be disappointed.

Just buying the emd is not enough, you still need to prove authority to search engines. For that, you need to do a lot more work than you have already done.

so all in one SEO is the reason why the "www" version of my site was inaccessible?

EMD? all im trying to do is be the #1 search result like i was yesterday. why is it that the only way i can be #1 is if i dont have the "www" on my site?

so should i contact my host and have them reverse whatever they did to nulllify the seo plugin? because right now they made it so that my site forces itself to go to "www.xxx....com" instead of xxx....com and it also caused my ranking on google to drop.

Well from my limited ability, I tentpoled the other day & was #1 & #2 for about 5hrs. on two searches. Didn't bring much traffic, so I guess content is the king, eh?

Make sure to "noindex" your categories and or tags with All In One. That always helps my sites.

Welcome to the world of destroying your site's SEO and learning to not do that again in the future. Nobody can vaguely know why your site is ranking/not ranking with knowing absolutely nothing about it except what you've mentioned here.

Facebook ranks better than most people's names for websites so maybe it was nothing you did.

A general rule of thumb is if your website is already ranking #1 for your intended keyword, don't screw with it, move on and rank another website #1.
