what i think can you do is just use some third party crawler and pinger so they (search engine) can notify your sites more faster and you had upper hand if it's come to keyword, since you get indexed first

icon was not relevant at all on my opinion, maybe it's just new enemy/competitor who had upper hand towards your sites instead issue about changing icon lol

Keep updating your site, leaving it untouched after a traffic drop can make things worse. Run a full audit in Search Console, check for manual actions, and review your content quality. Also, favicon changes can take some time. Do not panic, just keep improving steadily.
