plan for when hard drive crases

My backup routine:
- 2 EHDDs connected via Esata to my computer.
- The first HDD I keep at home at backup all my data weekly.
- the second HDD I keep at my parents house. and backup all data monthly. That way I'm protected from fire,burglary, etc.
-in addition to the two EHDDs all important docs (passports,social security,contracts,receipts) are also backed up via an online storage site.

I have a hard drive enclosure connected via usb however I do not know exactly how to backup the hard drive properly in case of my laptop one going.

I am too busy trying to make some money to read up on that!

Just buy a second internal HD and hook the configuration to RAID 1. That mirrors your main HD incase of a failure.. It all depends on your motherboard though, sometimes you can get by running a secondary external in eSata or usb.. I would not recommend it since its slow as balls.. Using an internal takes full advantage(if you have extra sata headers) of data transfer.

Also if you don't need to back a whole drive and just random files here and there, then get a 8-16gb usb drive..

Also make sure you don't have a faulty 12v power supply, an electrical surge is bad as well.. You can sometimes be out more than just a hard drive.
