    Hi,

I was using pinterest repins as one of the strategy in my seo services.

Recently found after repins, rankings are getting dropped and when i removed those links, its moving forward again.

I assume Google finds these repins links are spammy, and not providing any authority as it does to twitter retweets and G+..

Anyone facing the same issue or its only me?

Yep alot of repins are bad for a website, I tested this on 2-3 sites all dropped after repins.

How many repins did you do BB ?

I have noticed a small quantity is good and for larger quantity, its good if you spread them up among different anchors/URLs.

BigBuddy it would be helpful if you tell us the number of repins. I run a few tests via pinterest RPs and did not face any differences in rankings.

its 250 - 300. 2 months back, it was not an issue and now just 10 days back, i see huge drop in rankings and as soon as i removed those repins, serps are gaining back.

I am bit afraid to test again with less repins..so if anyone already tested with less repins, post your numbers, i may test it in my own sites.

and yes these repins are spread from 7 to 10 days for 4 urls...

not sure bigbuddy, I think I may start a test.

Once thing I see these days often:

If you force a backlinking method rankings often drop big and like 2 weeks later coming back strong. Earlier a google dance was more like a few spots or moving forward, backwards etc. Not it looks more like -> #15 -> #60 for 2 weeks -> #6

Quality and relevance of repins, images, links, articles? Google doesn't like anything less than AAA quality. If you are mimicing a viral effect, do you have other social 2.0 likes retweets, etc? Have you tried linking your repins and such in videos and seeing if that has a negative effect on your serps? Yes, it is ugly to see the little play button on the middle of the image, but try just repinning videos and then links to your site. Since I have some pinterest operations I have seen no drop in any serp movement.

I got into pinterest two months ago. I used it for a travel site so I thought it was ideal.did about 100 repines and a few of my own pins on a board. Two weeks later that site dropped from P2-3 to page 3-4.

I've been adding some content and dripping in some good links and have slowly dragged it up to P 13-15.

I never even considered that I could be getting penalised for pinterest.( I even added a pinterest widget to my homepage) but the timeline has me thinking

I'm going to pull down those pins this evening and see what happens.

I am not facing any issues with Pinterest.

If you add massive pins in bulk quantity then google ll definitely drop your rankings.

Good thing you made this post. I really didn't have the time to post something as I had a similar issue when I was testing my website for Yeeha.

I included social signals such as Pinterest in my service but I very purposely left out repins.

BB.. I did a test about a few weeks ago and I did various tests. I used 3 websites. I did 10 repins, 100 repins and 1000 repins. All of them saw great SERP increases (the third website getting the biggest rise). I was too skeptical about this so I left it aside and by my surprise, the rankings did go down. Not so dramatically but it went down quite a few positions below the original ranking before I did the repins.

I think a Pinterest Pin or pins would work better than hundreds of repins going towards one pin.

Of course I also did tests with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN and G+, of which all of them apart from LinkedIN showed positive results.

I haven't actually removed the repins or anything like that so that may be something I will do in the future but I would definitely recommend Pinterest PINS over REPINS. I don't think Google likes them enough to raise your SERPs. Instead, they decrease it, maybe its considered as spam.. who knows.

Another surprising thing I found out what that I got a bigger impact with Pinterest pins on account with a good number of followers. Maybe Google takes this as more authority but when comparing it to pins on new accounts, there was a big difference.

The accounts which used to repins are aged accounts with massive followers..

    phew..still its a guessing game...

Going to test it with less pins...lets see..

Let us know how it goes. I haven't done any more repin testing since the last one where I faced decreases in rankings. I did as little as 10 repins MANUALLY and for some reason these also made my SERPs go down at the end, whereas Pinterest pins worked better.

Anyway, like you said, it may have changed. Let us know your results :D

Well, Just happen to check my standings..

The pins which were pinned 7 weeks ago are helping the post page to rank. The description seems to act as a keyword and if it matches the Page Title then you are good...

I have not done any SEO stuff on the site.. But m getting handsome traffic from GOOGLE now.. M ranking for low-mid competition keywords.. Its definitely helpful if the pins are not just repinned but also have some likes and comments.. As per my observation they help a lot..

I agree with leith about the Pinning stuff.. Also offering it for free. Wonder why people don't want it :D

My Ranking pins has 7-8 repins and Likes avg

What was your pinning strategy? If it is just repins then you might suffer a drop in rankings. I have sites with over 7k pins to it and they are ranking quite high for numerous keywords.
